Hi,
I am a newbie when it comes to Tantra, but I can see that there is something profound in this tradition. Please excuse my use of terms that might not be technically correct.
My question is about the net energy in the body during tantric sex or solo practices.
Does the practice (i.e holding back method) increase the energy level in the body or does it just accumulate the present energy in the pelvic region (thereby keeping the net energy level the same)?
Thank you.
P.S. Hope this is not too basic of a question. :) |

That is a really good question and I don't have an easy answer for it. The holdback method certainly stimulates the circulation of the energy rather than letting it quietly rest. Whether it increases a total accumulation has been something that I have wondered for some time. It does seem that the contact with a joyful partner definitely increases happiness and therefore energy but simply stimulating sexual arousal without ejaculation doesn't seem to increase energy in my opinion, just maybe the sensation of it. |

Thanks for the reply Victor.
As a follow up...I have been practiving Tantric masturbation with holdback for a while. But I am not seeing any progress. All I see a build up of energy and frustration for a few days and I have to release the tension/frustration with ejaculation. I have tried several times but I can never seem to break the 1 week barrier, I sense myself getting more agitated and eventually the only way I can feel normal is by an ejaculatory release.
Can someone with similar experience please help me with this. I am thinking about trying tofollow-up tantric masturbation with pranayama and meditation and inverted poses to try and get the energy away from the pelvic region. Is this advisable? Or should I just abstain altogether from any kind of sexual stimulation and focus on pranayama and meditation?
Thank you. :) |

Abstaining is better, but don't expect to abstain forever; maybe a month or two at a time. I think touching yourself is too hard to control. Try doing whatever you do mentally for stimulation, and at the same time practice Spinal Breathing Pranayama to move the energy up, but without touching yourself.
Hopefully you are doing meditation twice a day too? |

Hello and welcome
The best way to make progress with holdback (IMHO), is to let go of the desire for orgasm. Easier said than done, right? But in my experience, desire for orgasm is the main cause of frustration. The sooner you can let it go, the quicker you will see progress.
Regarding meditation and spinal breathing, it's important to keep them up twice daily. Holdback/blocking methods are not very effective as stand-alone practices. It's kinda pointless and futile without meditation, actually.
Also keep in mind that progress with holdback takes time to realize. Much longer than progress from meditation/pranayama. Patience is key here. It's worth it though.
Hope all goes well for you!

Your core spiritual practice should be meditation twice a day. It only takes a few minutes. |

Meditation and pranayama as a DAILY practice is the key. If twice a day is difficult then make it once a day but EVERY DAY. Then this stuff should all fall into place. Stimulating yourself sexually and then holding back is more for people who are are in the habit of stimulating themselves to ejaculate and find it difficult to abstain. Abstaining from masturbation at least for a time seems better to me. After awhile with exploring the variations you will eventually get the hang of it but daily sitting practice is really the key. |
