Please forgive me if this has been covered before :) When doing samyama I occasionally experience a lot of heat being generated, so much so that I get very uncomfortable and have to stop the process.

It doesn't happen often but it is very distracting. Is this caused by anything in particular and is there anything I can do to stop it? Thank you

Hi Ishta.

It is caused by purification happening. More specifically it is caused by the awakened prana (kundalini) moving through nadis (energy channels) that are not yet purified enough to take the load. Later on the heat changes into ecstasy. There isn't much you can do to stop it, and there is no need to really, as it is part of the process. If it becomes uncomfortable, or too distracting then cutting back on the practice is the only way to reduce the heat. This can be done either by reducing the number of sutras (say to five instead of nine), or by cutting down from two repetitions of each sutra to just one.
