Hello,
I started doing deep meditation and spinal breathing a few months ago after years of searching for an effective spiritual practice to transport me away from the place i was in to somewhere better.
I was diagnosed with psychosis about 3 years ago and have been battling ever since.
although I'm committed to taking medication AYP has really helped me.
I'm interested in taking up a practice of grounding and was wondering what Yogani would do?
also I was wondering about cultivating concentration and receptivity to new knowledge like yoga nidra?

Hmmm,
if you typed the comment above I would say you have indeed improved greatly. However, I sensed you feel your feet moving around as if you are floating....hence you are wanting to ground off. Did you in your early stages of life suffered a blow of some sort to the back of your head?
Please understand........I'm just trying to be helpful....just thought I'd ask to understand the situation fully. |

Hi Joseph,
I had an episode of psychosis which lasted for approximately 2 years (2004 - 2006). Then there were another 1.5 years in which I had periods in which the psychosis came and went, but I always knew it was unreal.
-When I'm way up in the clouds, red meat is useful for grounding.
I also find very physical experiences useful for grounding: -running/jogging -being outside on the grass in the sun -going to a sauna/hot room and sweating for hours
Furthermore, I found meditation highly useful to alleviate psychosis. However, more so than meditation, I found "being present" (see Eckhart Tolle's materials) extremely useful.
Throughout the day, whenever I found myself "listening" to what was taking place in my mind, I'd direct my attention into my body. Or I'd listen to what I could hear via my ears. Or focus all my attention on one or all of my five senses. You then learn to consistently differentiate between what is taking place in your mind, and what is taking place in reality.
Reading the power of now was a huge help.
The one final thing which allowed me to succeed in overcoming (permanently, I've never had a relapse, and I know I never will) my condition was changing my diet. I absolutely implore you to get rid of any refined sugar, junk food, refined carbohydrates or any unhealthy crap in your diet. These have a terrible effect upon mental health.
Fish oil is a hugely useful dietary supplement for your mental health. I regularly go on periods where I skip one or two meals and drink a green smoothie or green juice (made fresh at a smoothie store, or at home - very important). This way your body diverts energy normally used in digestion into healing and repairing itself - that includes your brain and nervous system.
The mind/body are intimately connected, and fresh vegetable juices and green smoothies in the place of meals are the best fast route I know to instantly improving your mental and physical well-being.
If you need any advice or support, please PM me. |
