I have always been aware that there were eastern interpretations of the teachings of Jesus but I have always left them aside in favor of traditional yogic texts.

I have recently been reading Sermon on the mount by Prabhavananda
& Second coming of Christ by Paramahansa Yogananda and I now think I am having a love affair with the original Christianity. Anyway I recently stumbled upon these titles via wikipedia and was wondering has anyone read them;


  • The Sayings of the Desert Fathers, Benedicta Ward
  • The Lives of the Desert Fathers, Norman Russell
  • The Lausiac History by Palladius;
  • The Life of Saint Antony by St. Athanasius.


I also welcome any other recommendations of books you have loved

Try the gnostic gospels. The nag hammadi scrolls. The pistis sophia etc..

Not exactly the books you had in mind, but you were talking about the original Christianity so..

And don't forget that Jesus had a better half (no, not the church), Mary Magdalena.

indeed, i also have a newfound respect for christianity.

yoga and christianity are quite compatible, i think we'll find.

The christ is real and dwells within us. Also the Divine Mother in the form of Mary can be a real help on our path!

I had overlooked Mary, I have done a little reading on gnosis but not much Ill check out the gospels
