Hello, I was just wondering where should the eyes rest/focus while they are closed during deep meditation and during spinal breathing pranayama when the breath is not at the brow?
Do we just let the eyes relax and if they wobble about or circle this is okay, or is it better to have them fixed or focusing with eyes closed at a particular spot in the head?

Hi Damomck,
Just let the eyes rest gently as they will during both Deep Meditation and Spinal Breathing. Nothing special happens with the eyes when the attention reaches the brow at the end of the in-breath during Spinal Breathing.
You may find at some point that your eyes naturally want to rise up during practices, and centre towards the middle of your brow. This is called sambhavi mudra and is covered in this lesson.
If this is happening, then that is fine, as long as any increased energy flows (ecstasy) are not distracting you from your practices. |

Thanks for your advice Christi.
So is sambhavi mudra something that occurs naturally after some time, and not something that we do deliberately or try and incorporate as part of our normal spinal breathing pranayama? |

Hi,
After becoming stabilized in basic spinal breathing, sambhavi is eventually added in as a regular part of SBP. So we do favor sambhavi in spinal breathing starting in the lesson linked above. This would eventually happen on its own, but we give it a nudge to get it started. Once the energy starts opening up an area, it starts to happen on its own. So again, we just speed up the natural process.
Then as the brow region opens up, it will sometimes occur automatically in deep meditation. We neither favor nor oppose it when it happens naturally in meditation - just continue the meditation practice and let the body do its thing.
