Hi Yogani,
In Yogananda's version of Navi Kriya, there is chanting of "OM" in each chakra - ascending and descending. This is given a lot of prominence. In addition, "placing" OM in each chakra as we breath in and out is also a kind of pranayama practiced. Since you have brought in a lot from Kriya Yoga to the AYP practices, why have you omitted these? Have you tried these and found them to be not so "efficient". Would appreciate your response.

Hi Krish:
My experience has been that the more we load down energy practices (pranayama, mudras and bandhas) with visualizations and mantras, the less effective these practices are, because they then tend to become complex mental exercises rather than subtle cultivators of ecstatic conductivity.
Coming from the other side (cultivation of abiding inner silence), the same is especially true of deep meditation. If we divide the mind with extra activities while meditating, other than simply favoring the mantra at increasingly refined levels whenever we notice we are off it, then the efficiency of the procedure will be greatly reduced.
This is not to say other approaches are wrong. Each will stand on its results over time. It is up to the practitioners in every approach to make the best of what is being offered. That is one of the main reasons why AYP is "open source."
So using mantras during navi kriya and other energy practices is not taboo. Just not part of the baseline AYP system. The variations from the baseline are endless.
The guru is in you.
