Namaste Friends.....
Had an interesting experience in my afternoon sadhana yesterday that I thought I would share as this was the first time this had ever happened to me.
My sadhana includes a 30 minutes asana practice (usually) before pranayam, but I generally do not decide what asanas I will do, I just sort of let them come to me as I am going. Well yesterday I had an asana happen (no idea what it would be called, I have never seen this one before) in which my legs were out to the sides as far as my groin muscles would allow and my back was bent forward, my forehead almost touching the floor. My arms usually grasp at the feet in this position but yesterday they decided to wrap themselves around my head and pull me closer to the floor. Then I leaned forward a bit so my weight was on the balls of my feet and the top of my head touched the floor. As this happened (my arms were still wrapped around my head) my legs lifted themselves up so that I went into Salamba Sirasana....automatically. I have never done, not even tried, this posture before nor have I ever had any desire to....but this felt REALLY (really really) good. I stayed in this posture, not moving at all, for, well I can't really say how long, I don't know, but it was a long time....over 10 minutes I think....don't really know though. Anyways, just thought I would share this experience, it was really neat. Not getting attached, just wanted to share.
Love, Carson

Hey Carson,
wow, you're one flexible guy, huh? Good share, thanks!
What you've experienced would be [wide legged forward bend / prasarita padottanasana] to [Headstand / Sirsasana] transition, I guess.
It's a pity you can't see videos because in this one our wonderful Ester Eckhart shows and explains how to do it safely and properly.
Take care, Roman |

Hi viji, Roman....thanks for commenting!
@Roman.....
My usual posture for what I now know to be called "prasarita padottanasana" looks like this: http://www.yogaindia.info/assets/im...nasana-C.JPG
On the day the above experience happened, I naturally went from that posture in to this variation: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1185...c0da6802.jpg (I was swaying back and forth [onto the heels and then forward onto the balls of the feet] and stretching every part of the ?aducters? inside the groin/inner thigh area) and then my arms wrapped around my head like in this picture: http://www.indianetzone.com/photos_...asana_18.jpg and my legs pulled up into sirsasana.
I quite like the sequence and have been using it ever since

Respect, Carson! Advanced postures.
Be careful not to strain the fragile muscles of the inner thigh. I once went too far exactly in this pose (wide legged forward bend), thinking I'm experienced in it, and in one second I slightly injured my right inner thigh. It's like one year ago but my right thigh is still not as flexible as the other one. Well, just another reminder of the importance of prudent self pacing... |

Hi Roman.....
I am in the EXACT same situation. I pulled the right inner thigh/groin muscle (for whatever reason I have a feeling this is called the aductor) doing (well trying to do) this posture here: http://www.yogacards.com/yoga-postu...-splits.html .....now I am really careful with both this posture and the prasarita padottanasana one because my right aductor is still not back to normal. I have been using these postures (as well as this one: http://us.123rf.com/400wm/400/400/e...1/448160.jpg ) as my stretches for sitting in lotus posture which I have a very difficult time with for some reason. I hope that by the time I am done the teacher training intensive in November that I will have conquered the lotus posture and can sit in it comfortably for hours on end
