I wish her a very happy birthday, whether 27th or 28th. And acknowledge that she truly is a warrior.

Are there any signs that she values life more than other people because of her situation?

signs,
from the outside, not really. she smokes cigarettes, drinks a lot of caffeine, etc..
from the inside, probably why she has lived 28 years

It is very common for people who have come close to death or are living beyond expectations to value life more than the rest of us. The stories you hear about them often inspire us to value life more.

Not that they would necessarily take better care of themselves, but just that they often feel victory waking up in the morning.
Knowing you may not have long to live creates a different outlook on life that would benefit all of us.
That's why Castaneda taught to "use death as an advisor".

very good point etherfish!
I am up before the birds this morning
and that is a great reminder in dangling that unknown variable-

ahhh....and the first chirp of the day.

What Castaneda meant by using death as an advisor:

We all have advisors we use; a religious person might think of God first when he has a question,
a vain young woman might think of her looks first, a greedy man might think of money first.

Whatever is the most important thing in your life, when you have a question, you may think of that thing first, and that is using that thing as an advisor.

So what Castaneda said is the death is a very good advisor. When you have a question, think first that you are going to die at an unknown time, and see how that helps answer your question.
