THEME - ABOUT DHARANA AND DEEP M - part 1 "Each day we must learn how to be really happy."
Hi to all,
I want to give here my opinion as concern to the deep meditation technique, explained by Yogani and much more about concentration...
The basic rule to choose what kind of meditation to practice - ask yourself, your inner voice. This is may be the superb meditation for me - but for you at the same time this dhiana will be unsutable. For all that, there are rules that help me to make my oun dhiana - the part of my sadhana.
The most important thing about DM, that Yogani tell is - IT ISN'T DEEP MEDITATION IF I LEAVE MY ATTENTION TO ROVE and there is no mind intent to repeat the mantra sound. In other words - we can't make dhiana without dharana.
The repetition of the mantra sound make the mind oriented at only one direction - and this is dharana by definition. As all we know, dharana is the ability to direct my mind at only one direction and at only one object for a more time. No matter which kind of object it is - in deep meditation the object is 'I AM'mantra. We do dharana or by the help of mind will or by the help of heart will/intent.
We must know that dharana is the first part of the meditative exercise. Although dharana isn't dhiana, the concentration persist here and is the first part of meditative exercise. It is not deep meditation if I leave my attention to rove.
But we must know still another important thing - the results in DM come from leaving the mantra to disapear and from finding the mantra again. THERE IS NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I'LL REPEAT 'I AM', but how many times I'll let the mantra go and again - back to the 'I AM'.
Still another important thing - meditation is like sleeping process in one thing - the sleep arrive by itself, not by me, the meditation occure by His will, concentration occure by my will :-)
Still more - we must not apply a power (our wish) to receive 'fruits', but must apply humility. Do we understand why we are so much afflicted in our life, or in all our life, or at the beginning of meditation too? We are so much afflicted in our life to understand that we aren't the power in our life. If we understand this, we feel ourselves like empty glass. Then we follow ourselves and call God to help as. The suffering disappear and we overflow with bliss and divine love. Meditation is the way to cultivate the Emptiness and then radiate divine Love. This mean that dhiana is the way to the Supreme. The Supreme is the alive God in each of as. The only way for human to feel the Supreme is - like divine Love within the heart. There is no God somewhere in the sky. The Supreme is somewhere in the heart. It is because not possible to achieve the friuts of dhiana for human that not beleive in this alive God within him.
Something more - this alive God within as meditate, not we. This alive God within as concentrate, not we. I just must let Him to do this - by my effort and strive. This mean that Yogani tell as to not repeate mantra with effort, but with carelessness - to let the Supreme to do this :-) Because the heart is the place where the spirit settled and the spirit is a God deputy within me - the heart is the place where is the God alive.

THEME - ABOUT DHARANA AND DEEP M - part 2
Within me and around me are some emotions like - fear, uncertainty, anxiety, discomfort and so on. They want to steal my inner balance and mind peace. Mind produce some objects - thoughts, images and emotions. The image hides behind the thought, the emotion hides behind the thought and behind the object. In other words - emotion use toughts and images like a shield to hide yourself and then to steal as (difference between emotion and feeling is that the feeling origin is the direct apperception, while the emotion origin is the thought).
But it is difficult for these powers to come in me if I'm experienced in concentration. One day the dark mind objects will be afraid from me because of my dharana power.
One of dharana directions is to be watchful about mind objects. Another dharana direction is to place your attention at only one inner object (in this case this is 'I AM' object) and stay at this place by the help of mindwill and heart intent.
Yogani advice for DM is - at the begining for 1 minute wach thoughts, but not identify yourself with them - be the Withess, the Observer of the thoughts. This is dharana direction - to be watchful about mind objects. Then we again make dharana - easily I lead in the I AM object and repeate and so on...
Now I can see - I make dharana at the begining of DM and nothing else. When my dharana become powerfull - I can fall into dhiana, meditation occure by the God will. Dharana is the preparation for dhiana, make circumstances for dhiana.
What can I do to improve my concentration into I AM object? Sometimes it is easy for me to focus my attention on each of four mantra sounds (aiem), sometimes it is nicely for me to focus whole mantra sound. We are different at different moments and it is better to 'play' - sometimes whole mantra, sometimes each of 4 mantra sounds, sometimes I imagine each or 4 shapes while repeat each of 4 sounds. Sometimes at the begining of DM I even concentrate at my breathe for a minute. It is important for object to be interesting, my mind don't like monotony and revolt.
But when the power of my concentration begin in the heart, the object IAM always is interesting. To improve my concentration at first must forget about my head and feel that the power of concentration begin in the heart, not in the head and then go from the heart to the object.
What can I do to improve watching of mind objects? Most important thing for the Witness is to not identify yourself with the mind objects. This distance I make by the help of object call, appreciation. I go to the object and say to me - 'ThisIsObject'. This object naming help me to not identify with him. After naming the mind object disapear :-) When here are not mind objects or objects are weak - I go back to the IAM repetition.
And at the end of this theme - when we become experienced with meditation, it is good for as at the begining of dhiana make some dharana to 'clear the place' from mind objects. Here isn't place to fear - new objects will apear again by the help of mantra :-) (just say - 'this is object'). This is real cleaning - these objects are called into being from the deepest part of my mind by the help of mantra and go away. This is so called "samskara burning".

Thank you ThisisTruth
This makes a lot of sense to me and makes a very good comparison bewteen breath and mantra meditation in so fas as concentration and one pointedness is concerned. Concentration, in terms of meditation, is often mis-understood to mean something done with a furrowed brow and tension in the body. This is certainly not the case in meditative concentration.

What do you think about this: You must perceive the mantra thought like an object of the mind (mind objects are - thoughts, images, emotions, something else that is at the base of the mind objects) and see the mantra thought like an Observer, while you repeat the mantra. When you have distance from the mantra object (you arn't compare to the mantra, you are an Observer) you can make successfully DM.
In AYP lesson 13 Yogani tell: "Once you have gotten comfortable, slowly close your eyes. You will notice thoughts, streams of thoughts. That is fine. Just observe them without minding them. After about a minute, gently introduce the thought …I AM… and begin to repeat it easily and effortlessly in your mind."
When you "gently introduce the thought …I AM… and begin to repeat it easily and effortlessly in your mind" what is happen? By GENTLY introdusing and EFFORTLESSLY repeat you are be able to stay in Observer position and watch the mantra thought and know that you arn't compare to the mantra. You are not the mantra thought, you are the Observer. If not gently and if not effortlessly repeat - you are compare to the mantra thought and thought will manipulate and rule you.
