I have a question regarding doing DM in a group - Is it necessary /useful for the whole group to be using the same mantra? Or can some be on beginners' AYAM and others on any of the enhancement? Does it have any effect on the group vibration ?

Thks

Hi Sey,
When we were on the UK retreat we were all using the mantras that we use daily so some were on AYAM and some on the enhanced mantras.
How does that specifically affect group vibration I do not know...

Hi Sey:

Mantra, or even style of meditation, is not the common denominator in group practice. Transcendence to pure bliss consciousness is, and this is what produces the exponential effects in group practice, with inner silence radiating outward in great waves of bliss.

So, while a group meditating in lock-step with the same mantra might seem to make sense from an external point of view, it is the settling of attention in stillness that makes the difference, no matter what route is taken. Beyond the schedule for coordinating group practice, no further regimentation is necessary.

Of course, this lends itself to the freedom of individual practice with whatever mantra that may be used, and the group effects are known to be good. It is the technique that takes us in, even as the vehicle (mantra, breath, etc.) may vary. We all meet in the same place, and that is what counts.

The same principle applies where there are different levels of pranayama, samyama, etc. in use by group participants. The practice schedule can adapted (within reason) to accommodate the practices in use by the various participants. It is all leading to the same place and the same outcome -- abiding inner silence, ecstatic bliss, and outpouring divine love!

The guru is in you.

PS: In the case of an AYP retreat, scheduling is important for the group practice routine, as well as for other activities throughout the day (see Lesson 387). But the internal aspects of practice are according to each individual.
