Hello,
I am aware that for the AYP practice, we just have to repeat the mantra without focusing on anything in particular. Is there a reason why we could not focus on the third eye or heart center while repeating the mantra during meditation?
Thank you |

Hi Narayani
quote: Lesson 220
In general, I am not for focusing on individual chakra openings, because how can we know what is the right order? Unfathomable karma sets each of us on a somewhat different path, and that is why the broad approach in the lessons is offered, rather than a specific chakra by chakra approach. In this way we allow pure bliss consciousness to cultivate natural opening of the nervous system from within, relying on intellectual decisions very little. Through the practices in the lessons, we are systematically surrendering to the process of spiritual transformation that is inherent within us. Of course, pure bhakti is the greatest of all practices, and you know that already. If human desire is raised to the level of bhakti (intense desire for God/Truth), then all the methods of yoga are stimulated automatically. We only need hear of them once (if at all), and we are off into practice!

The 'I am' mantra purifies and opens the body evenly so you are able to self pace accordingly. It's better to clean the whole blocked pipe (spinal channel) evenly than to concentrate on one end. That could get messy . |

No. There are add-on practices that focus on different chakras, but they add more purification, so Yogani introduces them gradually in the lessons. Sambhavi is one, Solar Centering is another.
Such add-ons should only be considered after your current routine has been stable for a while (weeks or months). Then self-pace as needed.

Hi Narayani,
A little bird reminded me of lesson 47 which answers your question:
quote: From lesson 47 In meditation, we are quickly calming all the inner machinery and going straight to the source, the silence of pure bliss consciousness. So, the effect of meditation on chakras is to calm them, to still them. In meditation, purification occurs according to the unique patterns of obstruction in the nervous system. The chakras are involved in this, but not in any predictable way. The purification goes the way it needs to, and all we do is follow the simple procedure of meditation.
If you read the full lesson you can see why it is that consciously manipulating certain chakras is considered 'under the hood' in AYP. |
