Wild Geese
You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves. Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine. Meanwhile the world goes on. Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers. Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again. Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting-- over and over announcing your place in the family of things.

I think that I may like your writing, also....not everything, though.

Hi Sagebrush!
That Mary Oliver writes amazing poetry. I once went to a poetry writing workshop where the man critiquing my poem asked if there were any famous poets I admired. I mentioned Mary Oliver, to which he replied something like, "I like some of her work, but not everything."
I felt a little sobered when I first read that you like some of what I write but not everything. Then I identified that response and said to myself, "I feel sobered knowing that sagebrush might like some of what I write but not everything." With that, suddenly I was laughing with acceptance of the situation.
I write what I write. People like parts, and don't particularly like parts. That is as it is. So be it.
