I do meditation for 20 min.... but now a days i get headache (heavy forehead)in evening and morning session.... i read the lessons.... and Yogani said to reduce the session to 15 min ...i did reduce.. again i had headache...i again reduced to 10 min....now also no change.... i dont think it will be meaningful to reduce it to 5 min....also i dont find comfortable in meditation....How can we call this as deep meditation........meditation is to relax... but it is inverse.. can i continue with this headache.... i have the interest to continue with this headache.... can i?...Will it become distratous?

Hi Thundu, Actually deep meditation covers many varied experiences and not all feelings of a relaxed state. You are experiencing cleansing/healing symptoms as a result of purification or imbalance. It would be helpful to know what other practices you are using(if any) along with your meditation. If none then I would say it is the cleansing process.Backing off further on your meditation time or stopping until the symptoms disappear might be advisable.Cleaning is a normal side effect and is not with us forever. You can continue with the headache but it depends on how much you are willing to suffer to make gains.again it depends if you are using other practices which are causing imbalance. Are you bringing tension and force to the practice? Make sure you are not 'forcing the mantra'. Approach it as if you are matter-of-factly doing something easy. If you miss these things, that can bring on headache.
If none of this works, come back in a week or so. I have one other idea for you.

for people who asked me about my other practices... i do simple asanas for 15 to 20 min(like raising your hands by breathing in and exhaling by bringing down)...only one to mention is cobra pose.....i learnt all these from KYM(www.kym.org)..KYM concentrates more on breathing..after that i do pranayama ... i enjoy pranayama... finally meditaition....
melissa ... i believe that posture would bring pain in legs or back.... i dont think posture would bring headache...any way i will try that also
david... i dont force mantra .....most of the time i think about other things... |

Where in the forehead? If it's between the eyebrows, you may be overdoing. If it's elsewhere, I suspect you may be trying too hard. Drop your expectations, drop even your eagerness. Just say "I am" over and over to yourself. Let it be quiet and relaxed, and don't grab at anything or expect anything. Chill out. See if it helps. |

Dear Thundu,
Have you considered cutting out all other practices and just doing meditation for a bit? It may be worth trying that and then adding back pranayama and then later your asanas...
Are you sitting quietly for a couple of minutes after meditating before getting up and resuming your activities? One other thing to try--- after you've sat quietly for a minute following your meditation, gently lie down on your back (corpse pose)and stay there for at least five minutes before getting up and resuming activities.
Last year at one point, I added too many new practices too quickly and got a miserable headache for several days. I cut out all other practice except the basic meditation and did that for a while before adding more practice back. It really helped in my case.
I hope your headaches cease soon.

Thundu,
I had similar symptoms when I first started my practices, and the headaches became scarce and disappeared over a course of 1-2 weeks. After that it was more of a pressure at the point between the eyebrows which was much more bearable. From what I've gathered, the headaches are a symptom of the activation of the spiritual eye, but don't quote me on that. Quite often nowadays, I still feel a pressure at the point between the eyebrows, but nothing uncomfortable.
Also make sure, as NagoyaSea said, that you rest for a bit after your meditation without using the mantra. I found out the importance of this the hard way. :)
Best of luck on your journey.

I also feel a constant light pressure in the forehead almost since I started AYP meditation over a year ago, it's mostly not uncomfortable but it's there and something I have accepted to learn to live with. When I turned up the energies with siddhasana and kumbhaka the pressure increased but then became less again when I went back to just meditation and pranayama. |

Dear thundu, From what Ive read I think that you may be doing some pranayam which KYM has taught. If so I think it will be better not to combine AYP with KYM, till your symptom subsides. Also Ive found a technique useful when the forehead is overcharged. Use the tips of fingers of your right palm and in a circular motion, as if brushing some cobwebs from ur face remove the imeginery impurity and pretend to dispose of it with your fingers. i hope u got what i mean and hope it works for u.

Hello Thundu,
Don't forget I have one more trick up my sleeve for you to try. But let's see if these ones work first.
