I stumbled across this movie 'Perfume' on TV while browsing through the channels today. It was without subtitles and dubbed in an unknown language.

But this movie is such that it is more to be felt rather than understanding what is being said.

There were moments when I had to say "MY GOD!!!".

Its absolutely fascinating.... breathtaking.... a work of art!!

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NQsCG1NwYg

Official site: http://www.perfumemovie.com/

This is a MUST see for whoever is on the spiritual path. One of the BEST movies I have ever seen in my life.

In fact, I am glad that I was born as a human in this period and able to see such work of art. Brilliant!!

Great!

As you liked this movie, would you please let me know your other favorite movies? I am making a Bluray collection and don't want to miss anything worth watching.

Thanks.

Not going to watch it. I don't think its beneficial to watch movies about violence and murder.

Yes, violence and murder are no good to watch. Especially for young ones and over-sensitive.

But this movie is different... the sublime beauty and innocence of it overtakes everything else.

You have to watch it to understand what I mean.

And by the way , the nature is filled with violence, murder and innocence. Just look around.

There were about 100+ planets revolving around our Sun. But they started murdering each other to grow big. Our planet Earth is one big murderer.

I suggest you watch everything made by the director Darren Aronofsky (hope i spelled that right)

I haven't seen his last movie yet but "The Fountain" and "Requiem for a dream" were really good.

Darren Aaronovosky actually goes out with Rachel Weiss, believe it or not..Definitely regarded as on the avant-garde.A good one. Danny BOYLE is another good big name director ( i.e Trainspotting etc)

Some of the small independents can make some of the best movies and on really small budgets in comparison.

Like children, we spend our lives collecting colorful stones & pebbles.

Its just that as we grow, the stones are replaced by something else... Perfumes, Cars, Mobiles, Places, Gurus, Blurays... to name a few.

Hmmmm... why?

I got the answer from this song by John Lennon:

All my little plans and schemes
Lost like some forgotten dream
Seems like all I really was doing
Was waiting for you

Just like little girls and boys
Playing with their little toys
Seems like all they really were doing
Was waiting for you

From this moment on I know
Exactly where my life will go
Seems that all I really was doing
Was waiting for love

Thought I'd been in love before,
But in my heart I wanted more
Seems like all I really was doing
Was waiting for you

Don't need to be alone
No need to be alone

It's real love
Yes it's real, yes it's real love
It's real, yes it's real love...
- Real Love (John Lennon)

All we seek is real love. We keep wandering until we find it.

Meditation is the key that opens the door to that love we all seek.

The love that we never lost.

Are you guys for real? Perfume is the sickkestestestest movie I have ever watched. So much so that I once emailed Star movies to please stop telecasting it on a Sunday 9 pm time. Anyone who can relish the grisly murders in this movie and call it innocence, seriously needs to consider visiting an asylum.
Even the SAW movie series is not as sick as this one. Atleast in that movie the psychopath killer intends to teach "life lessons". In 'Perfume' movie there is just grisly grim conscienceless murders.

I enjoyed Perfume a LOT, although I do agree that murderers can be very sick people. That doesn't take away from my enjoyment of the film!

You should see the uncut version. Star Movies must have shown the censored version that would be just 75% of the movie.

This is actually the most beautifestestestest movie I have ever seen.

The last scene when tears flow down from his eyes as 100s of couples in crowd make love...

I have no words to express. Just breathtaking!!

And you did see the way he made his repentance?

Open Your Eyes(Abres les Ojos) 1997 is a great film that questions reality. There is a USA remake of it, Vanilla Sky, which is terrible.

I like to read suggestions of books, music and movies.

I don't know if I will watch perfume.

I will say the last movie I watched was 1984 a few nights ago and it makes me have weird thoughts.

I remember liking my dinner with andre..I think it was made in the late 70's/80's. two friends dialoging over dinner..one guy is describing his metaphysical experiences and is talking on the edge and the other guy acts like a lump on a log..trying to survive.

havn't seen it in years but recall liking it for its deep meanings.

I have not grown out of collecting rocks and tidbits from nature. don't collect as much as I used to.

my ideal movie is something like on golden pond or jeremiah johnson.

perfume looks too weird...I prefer nature films that are peaceful and educational. the fountain picture looks ok.

my mind is to wrapped up to take in violence. although I watch on tv I survived and I should not be alive, often. adn I do notice that I like forensic-cold case stories(actual events not tv drama)

john lennon song is beautiful lyrics. I will have to listen to that-maybe I know it maybe not or maybe I heard it and recognize it.
it is inspirational. and has a sort of intensity of direction.

thanks for getting the ball rolling manigma and I will try to be more flexible in my movie watching.

have a meditative day-

Here is an alternative review of Perfume:

The Ultimate "Perfume" of Samsara
http://www.buddhistchannel.tv/index...4334,0,0,1,0
or
http://tinyurl.com/6zsns2v

... Its "hinted" messages seem fully in line with Buddhist principles, presented "via" the realm of smell using sight and sound. If told without the cultural backdrop, one might even mistaken it to be a classic Buddhist parable of sorts.

...On his quest, he sought shelter in a cave. It was a sanctuary that had almost no smell of its own. There he abided in tranquillity for some time - with the smell of "nothing". Without distracting smells, and hibernating in a "Samadhi" of sorts, he almost forgets his quest for the greatest smell. Isn't this similar to abiding in the calmness of objectless Samatha meditation, where one relinquishes desire for all pleasures?

...An intriguing aspect of "Perfume" is that the protagonist is never exactly portrayed to be villainous. The audience is less likely to see him as a victimiser; more as being victimised by desire - probably like us, albeit to a more extreme extent. A sense of sympathy for the "devil" (or rather, "Mara") arises.

A great review of a great movie.

I found the book already terrible and the movie even worse. There is absolutely no meaning in this film. It's more like some soft-porn fanatsy of a guy who feels the need to share it with the world. Def. no art in this. But that's just my opinion.
