(A variation on an earlier work)
Always free
There is a vulnerability I keep facing;
it keeps grabbing me and shaking me,
screaming out to move on.
It makes me question who I can trust,
and I must withdraw from those
whom I question.
It’s so easy to go the way of the crowd,
to be a painting by numbers.
But to stop and look and walk away,
I need to face who I truly am,
and look at my reflection in the faces
and in the expressions of others.
The vulnerability looks at me;
I step into one betrayal after another;
I just blame myself for my humiliation,
and the more I look inside,
the more it seems I must face.
Today, I visited the lake,
the greatest beauty I have seen;
it looked inside me, and held me in
its peace, its serenity.
It was like a mother carrying her child.
Whilst I see my deepest sentiments reflected
in the expressions of others,
the water grants me its precious gift,
it shows me who I truly am
and I know that I am always welcome here.
I am always free.
