Im just wondering about my swaying. Everyday I practice my feet sway or shake and my head sways as well. Its always one or the other. Sometimes slow, sometimes fast. I've been practicing for over 2 years and this is something I just accept as natural for me. I do enjoy the meditation very much. I had a really rough day at work today, lots of pressure and stress, even got into with the boss lady where it turned into a loud argument. So after work I went to get the burger joint to get some unhealthy food. I love cheeseburgers! The drive there was just so peaceful and beautiful. All that work stress just seemed to dissapear. I have most of existential moments in life driving in my car. The sun was setting, that big fiery red ball. Everything just seemed so perfect and I felt a deep connection with existence. So I did my meditation before I got my food and it went really well. I think I put out a good presence at the burger joint because the cook gave me a free order of steak frys. |

Hi des022
I get some pretty rad swaying going on in meditation too....especially if the pranayam has been really deep right before. I usually get a "circling" of the whole body going on. Basically, my torso/whole upper body, rotates around on the tailbone. Sometimes its in a clockwise direction, sometimes counter clockwise, and sometimes just swaying side to side. I usually notice it when it starts, but I just relax, go back to the mantra, and will notice it only when I realize I am off into thought, at which point I just go back to the mantra and forget about the swaying until the next time I notice I am in thought. Think this is pretty normal.
Love.

I have that as well, exactly like Carson describes it. It used to be much worse than what is now, but it happens occasionally still and I equate it with purification going on inside. Recently there is more the presence of a "subtle energy" movement, which I gather to be the prosecutor or original impulse to the swaying.
Although I did get excited about this at times (see e.g. http://www.aypsite.org/forum/topic....OPIC_ID=7130) I think there is no use to get caught up in this kind of phenomena. The best to do is to go back to your object of meditation and continue.
All the best. |

Yep - I've been getting a lot of that too, exactly like Carson describes. The thing is.. it is kind of distracting if you are swaying hard. It stops me from really going deep into silence, but that's not the worst of it - I have been suffering from a lot of pain in my neck and shoulders. This rapid circling /whipping round of my neck, I think is partly the source of it; stuck energy is probably part of it too. Now the thing that relieves the pain are the asanas - the stretching exercises. |
