I have read that karma works FOR your spiritual development, never against it... But what about free will? Using your free will in a destructive way hinders your spiritual development, right? So if we come back reincarnated in a next lifetime, our karma will serve to further enhance our spiritual development, but if we use our free will in a destructive way, this will counteract any growth.
So could using your free will in such a way actually reverse your spiritual development to the point where you are actually worse off than before?

My view of will is that although it is something we all have as a potential, true willpower is not functioning in many people without first developing it. What most consider to be will is merely the acting out of unconscious impulses and desires. This kind of lower "will" is nothing other than karma in action. As for whether using our will destructively will counter-act spiritual growth, I think the answer is both yes and no. On the surface, something can seem to affect us very negatively. But on a deeper level that very same thing may eventually lead to a superior state of maturation which may not have been attainable with out that "destructive" experience. It's sort of like how farmers sometimes burn their fields in order to restore the nutrients of the land. Destruction provides fertile grounds for new growth. |

Karma means action, it can be good, bad, or neutral or good and bad might just be a personal preference. Simply put, karma means any action and the results of that action on pretty much any level, also the desire for action or aversion etc.... |
