I have found much to my suprise that on a couple of occasions whilst doing my I am meditation first thing in the morning that my time sat doing it has sometimes doubled and on one occassion tripled...
Ie it went on for an hour!
I actually feel fine doing it and seem to be less irratiable than before...
Is this too much...?

if it were to become a habit then yes, that is way too much. If it's accidental like that, just be sure to take enough rest after the practice. Long-term stable practice is the most important thing :)
If you feel like adding more to your current practice routine that's great. And it's best to follow the main lessons or the short AYP books on that. Add on gradually, while watching for signs of overdoing.
