Their is the 'spac of Atman', and the 'space of Jiva' within each human being.
The right chamber of the heart carries the Jiva, or individualized soul, and its energetic location is the Daharakash, located 1 thumb width off the sternum, on the right side of the chest, in the second intercostal space(the second space between the ribs, the first being right below the clavicle). This is where we touch ourselves when someone talks to you, and you say "are you talking to me?(hand on the heart)" this auto gesture reveals this truth to all.
This is the space of giving/recieving, and Buddha is shown holding a Lotus flower to his chest here...
The 'space of Atman' is where the cosmic soul/Self resides, and this is in the 3rd and 4th ventricles of the brain. This space here is equal to the space between galaxies in our outer universe. It is the Chidakash. This 'space' is linked to the whole space of the spinal cavity, or sushumna...thus spinal breathing!
Thus we have two hearts (heart by definition is the "center of"...heart of the palm, heart of the city, etc) One being the heart/chest area, the other being the center of the brain...thus linking and building communication between these two 'centers' lifts us into the higher strata of existence, beyond experience...

The 'spaces' I mentioned are from an Ayurvedic Teacher/Yogi I study with, and from Buddhism. As far as written references...I have none of those, only oral transmission and personal knowing thru experience.

Small Business - Try our new resources site! http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/resources/ 457 From: "jim_and_his_karma" <jim_and_his_karma@yahoo.com> Date: Tue Mar 22, 2005 0:06am Subject: Re: Some Key AYP Lessons jim_and_his_... Offline Send Email When the Buddha was asked about particulars like these, he told a homily, which I'll absolutely butcher and mangle in paraprhase, but you'll get the idea:
Two learned men came upon a man in the street who had an arrow sticking into his stomach but who was not quite dead. The men launched into a scholarly discussion over the type of arrow it was, the angle from which it was most likely shot, the reasons for it's being shot in the first place, and the organs probably pierced by the trajectory. The dying man, unable to speak, moaned and pointed at the arrow with beseeching eyes. The two men continued to analyze and erudite, arguing over the probable blood loss thus far, learnedly explaining which tissues had been injured, and rendering predictions for the remaining time before death if the arrow wasn't pulled out immediately.
And then he died, the arrow still in him.
Point being, of course, that life is short and we've got a profoundly important issue to take care of (awakening), and you can analyze, elucidate, name, and study all you'd like, but if it becomes distraction to the process of addressing the central issue, you're in trouble.
Note that I myself am fascinated with all that stuff! And there's nothing wrong with erudition and analysis, so I'm certainly not rebuking anyone or suggesting we close this discussion! But I love the story, and it fits beautifully with the spirit of the AYP, and I wanted to share it to put into perspective these sorts of ancillary analytical issues (especially for readers along, who may get the mistaken impression that this sort of scholarship is necessary for moving ahead in the path).

Whatever we reason, read or analyze is good but it cannot replace our practices as a means to reach our goal.
Sometimes this reading and knowing things helps in our practices too. For example had i not read/known that getting thoughts in meditation is okay, i would have really made a mess out of my meditation. Similarly "dont expect a perfect guru, be one yourself" is a very good suggestion that i read too. We often try to analyze the guru and expect perfection in him which can be a hindrance to our goal. We need to try to glean as much good info as possible for every source/guru that we meet instead of expecting too much perfection from everyone.
I always keep my practices as my first priority and learning thru reading the 2nd.
Love to all, Near

Sorry for the following quibble, but it stems from my compulsive need to feel that I"m making myself clear (i.e., it's about my problem, not yours!) :)
I think the homily goes just a bit further than that. Not only is erudition/analysis not a fit substitute for practices, but time spent on that stuff is a distraction from an urgent matter. So, for that matter, is going to the store and buying milk a distraction, or clipping your fingernails, or directing a play (unless those things are done with full attention and utter detachment...i.e. karma yoga, the path through which merely cleaning toilets, done with proper intention, can lead to full awakening). And the same for time spent composing this message. And while all the above are ok (there's a time/place for everything) the illusion that we have infinite time is just that...an illusion. In otherwords, there's a certain degree of urgency, especially as you begin to glimpse the central problem. Those scholars couldn't see the dying man, only the arrows; if they had, they'd have reprioritized!
I do agree with you that there can be helpful inspiration (especially, but not solely, in terms of bhakti) from study of these topics. But you're lucky that you see around the trap: that the study's ancillary, it's not the thing itself. I've seen (and you have, too, no doubt) people very proud of their vast knowledge of "spiritual information", who are actually moving the wrong way...just feeding their egos and adding new merit badges to their collections. And others who read tons of books and attend lots of seminars and initiations, desperately hoping for a lightning bolt. Most people get trapped one way or the other in the erudition aspect.
And the stripped-down action-oriented nature of AYP is (in my view) a knife to cut through this sort of thing.
