hi everyone :)
i'm studying abroad this year. doing my first semester Aug 15- Dec 15- in Bangalore, India. .and will have time to travel for a month or two before I fly over to Nanjing, China to study at Nanjing University for the 2nd semester. Feb 8 - May 31st
for those who traveled to either country, what were your thoughts? where do you suggest I travel to and must see? beautiful sights? historic places?
any particular advice from experience?
as for spiritual trips, while i'm interested in seeing the historic beautiful and cultural spots.. i'm moreso interested in spiritual places that hold value. any thoughts would be appreciated. for instance Bodhgaya in India where Buddha obtained enlightenment is a place I def must make pilgrimage to.
Dharamsala would also be a place I'd particularly like to visit.. but its in north India and going there in December/January would be mighty cold wouldn't it?
as for China, i don't particularly know about the spiritual places to go to
would appreciate any advice!
also, not limited to Buddhist sites, but am also interested in Hindu, Taoist, whatever!

There are many spiritual places in the southern India where you are going to visit. The one that I can think of right away is Ramana Maharishi's ashram.
The Ramana Maharishi's ashram in Thiruvannamalai is about approx 400KM south of Bangalore. It is in the neighboring state Tamil Nadu. That would be a great place for a spiritual visit. You can take a train/plane/bus to Chennai and from there take another train or bus to Thiruvannamalai. There will be a huge crowd on the full-moon days to go around the arunachala hill. It is beleived that going around the arunachala hill by foot on full-moon day has great spiritual benefits. But I would suggest that you avoid the full-moon day unless you want to be in the middle of a crowd where you will be surrounded by people and hardly can move around. I have enjoyed meditating at the meditation hall in Ramanashram few times before. You can also visit the temple at Thiruvannamalai when you are there. Here is a picture of the temple from wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thiruvannamalai).
Also if you are going to Ramana Maharashi's ashram, then you can visit other places in the same state like tanjore Shiva temple built by cholas on 11th century (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brihad...mple#History) and the Madurai Meenakshi temple (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meenakshi_temple) which is famous for its thousand pillars.
