Hi I've been reading the AYP lessons since november 2005, and I've now implemented Deep meditation practice in my daily life. If it wasn't for all the wisdom and incredible knowledge in Yogani's teachings, I sincerely don't think I would have ever taken up meditation on my own.
So thank you very much Yogani ! Un grand merci du fond du coeur.
I am looking for an english translation of the Bhagavad Gita with commentaries (I've read so far only a french translation). After doing a bit of research I can't seem to choose between Yogananda's "God Talks with Arjuna: The Bhagavad Gita " and "Bhagavad-gita as It Is" by Swami Prabhupada. Or maybe someone can suggest another version I've never heard of ? I know there are dozens out there.

Thibaud,
Having read both of those and some others, I would recommend reading the Arnold's Gita without commentary, then Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's translation with commentary.
If you must choose between Prabhupada & Yogananda, I recommend Yogananda.
May all your efforts to know God be richly blessed!

Check: http://www.bhagavad-gita.org/ - this is good one.
Also check: www.gitapress.org. If you check book code 534 - that one is in English without commentary. The one I had was in Hindi it had shlokas and Hindi translation only.
If the author name is Gita Press then it is most likely translated by some scholar who would not like to be identified. It will have no preface - just the core stuff. This gave me option to find meaning myself and unbaised except for my karmas. To bring point of no commentary closer, check:
http://www.bhagavad-gita.org/Gita/verse-03-35.html
And I agree - if it is a choice between Prabhupada & Yogananda then go for Yogananda. |

Hi Thibaud
I can recommend Bagavad Gita with commentry by Sri Aurobindo. It is simply incredible. After reading it I thought there was simply no need to read any other book ever again. It is probably available in French as well as English as Sri Aurobindo spent most of his life in the formerly French Pondicherry in India.
The commentary only without the Gita prose is available seperately under the title "commentaries on the Gita".

Bonjour Thibaud,
I happen to be in personal contact since 2005 with Swami Sadashiva Tirth who has lately published commentaries on the Gita for easier understanding in our modern times. You can buy "Bhagavad Gita for Modern Times: Secrets to attaining inner peace and harmony" now from amazon.fr : http://www.amazon.fr/Bhagavad-Gita-...p/0965804267
At the end of his book, Swamiji also suggests these translations: - Srimad Bhagavad Gita by Swami Paramananda, Vedanta Publishers, Cohasser, MA, USA - The Bhagavad Gita: According to Gandhi, Berkley Hills Books, Berkley, CA, USA - http://www.bhagavad-gita.org/Gita/verse-02-01.html - http://www.asitis.com/6/20-23.html - http://webapps.uni-koeln.de/tamil/
Amicalement, Albert |
