I have just made a mistake that I would like to share with you I've just begun to add Yoni mudra to my practices no bad effects but no apparent good effects either yet so when I contracted a slight cold I thought I know I'll try Amaroli. On the first day I took about 15ml, no apparent effect on the second day I put it up to 30 by the afternoon I had a very slight fever and a pounding headache that's only just beginning to fade I had to hit the paracetamol to ease it. I've since read that you shouldn't start Amaroli while you are ill so now I don't know whether it was the Yoni mudra or the Amaroli that caused the problem. It certainly wasn't the cold as I've had much worse without any of these effects.
Has anyone got any thoughts on this?

my two cents worth --- one of the problems with bringing in two practices at once is that you just don't know which is bringing up a problem. Sometimes you just have to use a good guess/intuition. My money (all two cents of it) is on the amaroli. But that's from my own intuitions and experiences, and your body/nervous system could be entirely different.
Observe Kathy took up mantra modification and samyamas at the same time and kinda knew which was causing trouble.
One of my indications for guessing amaroli is the slight fever. The slight fever sounds a little more 'amaroli-ish' as a symptom.
As you may know, some people can jump into a high dose of amaroli with no negative effect. I was one of the people at the other extreme myself. After I took a first punch (something like the size you took) I got pretty strong fever straight away --- something like your experience but maybe worse --- mine was almost like having the flu. I had to go down to a few *drops* a day. I experimented and found that doubling the dose about every five days was a stable formula, all the way up to a dose close to a glass a day. You mightn't need to go down to a few drops, maybe more like (I'm guessing) 5 ml. I'd say check your stability on that, and consider trying the doubling-every-five-days formula. If you try that, I'd be curious how it goes.
Blessings,
-David

I missed that part of your message. I expect the reason for not starting while you are ill is partly because you won't be able to separate the effects of the illness from the amaroli, and won't know how to adjust the amaroli.
I'd say that makes sense for an acute illness (like a cold) but not a chronic illness.

Yes I had considered that it could all be unrelated to practices, but I don't believe in coincidence and my suspicions are on Amaroli too. I've cut back a bit on everything and totally suspended Amaroli until my cold gets better. I will then try again and stick with the lower dose for a little while so that I can gauge the results better.

If you have symptoms I would just ride them out till they go away. I started at 250 ml and did that for some weeks with no ill effects at all except for the taste which I still haven't gotten used to. Because of taste I have dropped down to 125 ml in the morning. Its just hard for me to get used to the taste but otherwise can't really tell much of any difference at all. I have heard about fevers but that seems like a temporay thing and should pass. i don't eat a prticularly clean yogic diet and am not vegetarian. That accounts for the bad taste I am sure but otherwise no problems at all so I don't think that reactions are all that much diet related.

Even a little amount in warm saline water helps but if u can do it with 100% concentration then nuthin like it. I did it yesterday and today my cold is gone. I had a bad throat and a blocked ear even that almost cleared up. Drinking urine in Amaroli doesnt help but local application does make a difference and my energy level seems to be much higher since i did the Jal Neti with urine. Give it a try and see the difference.

I must admit I was a bit sceptical that it would have any noticeable effect at all, at least not for some time. I must be very susceptible to it that's all. I'm going to try again with the lower dose when I am completely better. By the way my urin dident appear to have any taste at all and I'm not a vegitarian. As for Jal neti I know nothing about that and I wouldn't attempt it without being taught, I'd probably choke myself.
Thanks for your help all

And some of those people who have no adjustment symptoms at all probably think we are neurotic kooks and are making all this up! :)
I'm curious if you are a 'vata' type; I've read that the effects of amaroli *tend* to be more noticeable on vata types. I'm a vata type myself.

The interesting thing about taste was that as I was drinking it I thought, hello there's no taste at all, then when I had a little drop of water afterwards it tasted really sweet. I must admit the effects were really quite profound I have had many colds in my life and many much worse than this one but I have never suffered with headaches and this headache was a real stinker I felt like the top of my head was coming off. I thought I had blood pressure but I tested it and it was normal.

Offline Send Email Aside from David's point that taking on multiple new practices makes it hard to figure out which is giving you trouble (if there's trouble), I just wanted to note that there's a TERRIBLE cold going around the country right now - much worse than the norm. This all may be completely unrelated to practice!
Hope you're feeling better soon!
