If you want to try something very interesting, I'm working on a technique I've dubbed "poor man's kechari". It gives a rather intense effect of heightened conductivity, which Victor agrees is akin to a later stage kechari (I of the stubby tongue wouldn't know).
Sit straight and cross legged. If you practice hatha yoga, you know about extending/ straightening the spine and the neck. But keep going...don't stop at the top of the neck. Keep extending up, up, up, to the place where the spine enters the skull. And keep going from there. Extend the entire back of the skull, as if it were part of the spine (if you do it right, you should be discernably taller). At the same time, extend the spine inside the skull (so it's like pulling on both strands of a rope that's been bifurcated at the middle of the back of the head.
BIG WARNING: do NOT extend up to anywhere near the crown - inside or outside the skull. Yogani says to leave the crown alone, and he's never steered me wrong before, so I'm careful on this. There's a lot of room to extend before the crown, anyway, so no sweat. And don't do this too extremely...a little goes a long way. You'll feel it as intensely pleasurable, so mete it out in small doses.

In Tai Chi, they say it is of constant importance to maintain a heaven/earth connection to maintain balance.
I was taught to do this by imagining light shooting from the crown and attaching to heaven and another stream of light shooting down and attaching to the core of the earth. I believe I have heard this stated before as "being in this world but not of it."
