I find the largest obstacle to my meditation is sitting comfortably. Does anyone have a good regimen of yoga asanas, tips hints help to be able to sit comfortably for extended periods. My main goal is to be able to do full lotus but I would be extremely happy if I can build up to be able to sit for 1 hour straight in the male accomplished pose or any cross legged pose would be great. Your help is much appreciated.
God Bless

Many of us are also longtime meditators with only so-so results. But the practice we're gathered here to discuss - "Advanced Yoga Practices" - breaks though a lot of barriers, and a lot of people are making great progress with it. The practice includes extensive instructions on sitting, and because it actively discourages meditating for longer than 20 minutes, there's no need to work up to 60 minutes in a seated pose.
You may want to read through the lessons that comprise the practice and see if it rings your bells. If so, I'd strongly suggestion you cease other practices and just work on these for a while; mixing and matching isn't a great idea. Start here: http://www.geocities.com/ advancedyogapractices/index.html and read the "Main Lessons".
If my answer isn't useful to you, bear in mind there are myriad web sites devoted to hatha yoga which can surely help you with sitting poses generally. This particular forum is about this specific practice.

Yes these lessons seem to be great. I will try and work through the lessons as best I can and witness the effects of them. Do you have any comments on the spinal breath? That is it seems similar to the taoist microcosmic orbit, however it seems like the spinal breath is only half a revolution. Is there any difference between the two and their results or effects. Thanks.
Regards, Lefti

Offline Send Email Lefti, they're different in approach, though it's all the same in the end. See just below for a discussion of this. Basically (and I say this as a wiseass) it's best not to be too much of a wiseass. Don't mix and match concepts/traditions/practices/mappings which were developed in different places. They're all geared to get you to the same place, but all the trains don't run on the same tracks, and the details don't really matter much anyway.
Microcosmic Orbit is great practice. AYP is great practice. They both work, but they're not mutually compatible. Choose the one that speaks most to you and hunker down for a few years. Better to dig one deep well than a hundred shallow ones, etc.
Anyway, that's just my suggestion, FWIW. I'm not some all-knowing enlightened being, just some dude working on stuff like you and everyone else here.
