one has to be careful with Siddhasana, and I am a bit bothered that I said 'you are half-sitting' on your heel. I really regret this language. Don't "half-sit" on your heel, with your heel on your perineum. Sit with your heel putting a light, comfortable pressure on your perineum.
Gentlemen can give themselves a 'saddle-injury' if they really sit on something hard which is against their perineum. Inside the perineum area is basically the penis -- not the part you may be used to seeing, but its root. Don't hurt it. Permanent damage could be done. (Some poor cyclists have done themselves permanent damage this way, by sitting badly on the saddle. The result of nerve damage in this area is impotence problems.) This is not an instance in which you want to summon up ascetic resistance to pain.
I think people should really consider a rubber ball instead of the heel there, as Dharma Mitra has suggested below. Maybe even quite a soft ball? There are no brownie-points gained in yoga from not using props.
At the same time I don't want to be sensational or scare people. But it is good to know that what you are pressing against is basically your penis, and you should think accordingly.
Best regards,
-David

Hello there. If you read lesson 28 in the Tantra section you will find clear instructions on Siddhasana for both men and women. So it is quite wrong to say Siddhisana is just for men.

note that every smart resource I've seen contraindicates this pose for those with sciatica. Yogani might want to make note of this
