the main measurable effects on the body in the early stages are the 'relaxation response'. Many practicioners find enhanced mental and physical well-being and the effect of that on body health is general. Another effect is that meditation can draw people to healthier physical practices like eating well, exercises, yoga etc.

There are lot of good effects to meditation. More control over emotions, will power, good nature, powers (flying in air, disappearing, seeing future yes these are real) and finally enlightenment.
