This is a poem I wrote based on my experience with what i can only describe as a dharma protector who carried me in spirit and soul when i was very unwell.
He is made up entirely of black energy but he is very good.
Though with a lantern bright and a brazier warm the night watchman heads out into the storm.
His patrol is long and so he sings a mournful song, a song of the ages,
A song that he taught the sages, a song that calms seas and soothes broken hearts.
And through his song his love he does impart.
The night watchman.
He knows no fear, and with a laugh he says "the light is always near"
And so the grieving and the lost he does accost and with a sigh he rises high to the perpetual dawn where no man shall mourn.
The night watchman.
So then the nightwatchman returns to where his brazier burns and with his lantern bright, in the deepest of dark night.
With a gentle voice he gives the dead a choice "come with me for by my light we can see and with my steady hand we shall journey"
the night watchman.
and for you there he will be, just you see, until death sweeps his scythe no more.
