I try to keep the silent mantra going in public by attaching it to whatever musical 'ear worm' is playing in my mind... Right now it's"
'Namo Amidha Butsu' set to "Easter Parade:"
E E G E D C G Na-mo A-mi-dha Bu-tsu
It fits remarkably well with subsquent phrases also. 533 From: Ramon Sender <rabar@mindspring.com> Date: Sun Mar 27, 2005 4:11pm Subject: Re: Digest Number 29 rabar94114 Offline Send Email > I don't see contradiction in being devoted to practice with lots of > bhakti yet approaching it all with the casual nothing-specialness of brushing > my teeth.
Throw the mind something to not think about:
"Walk around the house not thinking of a fox." This was Great-Aunt Emma's cure for hiccups when we lived with her when I was 8 years old.
I almost wrote "Walk around the fox not thinking of a house." Now there's a Zen version! 534 From: Ramon Sender <rabar@mindspring.com> Date: Sun Mar 27, 2005 4:16pm Subject: Re: Digest Number 29 rabar94114 Offline Send Email R. C. wrote:

In meditation a level arrives where I can feel my heartbeat throughout my body. If I listening intently, my heart is saying " I AM," "I AM," "I AM".... 538 From: "jim_and_his_karma" <jim_and_his_karma@yahoo.com> Date: Sun Mar 27, 2005 5:51pm Subject: Re: Digest Number 29 jim_and_his_... Offline Send Email No, you hear your mind making an insightful observation about what your heart's doing.
Be ruthless. Don't get caught. Just return to mantra, even if really deep and spiritual notions and observations arise. Even profound chatter is still chatter. Toss out bathwater and babies, too....plus the tub, the bathroom, the house, and the world. Return to mantra and let it all go. We're not aiming to "grow", we're aiming to radically downsize.

Nice. I can use that.
