When meditating during the day, is it recommended to just deep breathe or can one also incorporte the mantra, I AM. My understanding is the mantra is to be used only during the two 20 minute DM sessions during morning and evening practice. Also can anybody give me some tips on walking meditation? Would be nice to walk through Wal-Mart and not be so distracted by all the sights, sounds, noise and everything else that jangles the nerves. Thanks in advance. Nice to be on the board. HOL |

Welcome on board Heart of Love.
You should only use the Mantra for the 2 x 20 minute sessions and even then make sure you self pace when necessary ( note that it's most often when and not if as this is a very powerful practice). Have a read through the on line lessons so you are familiar with the practices and the signs that tell you to cut back.
The practices will lead to the rise of the witness and inner silence which will allow you to make those trips to the Supermarket more easily.
You can try mindfulness when out and about, just withdraw the senses and be aware of is being perceived. It's difficult to keep that going very long as you will probably bump into a stack of cans and it will break the feeling. |

Welcome to the forums Heartoflove.
The way the lessons set up the practice makes it so that more above twice daily or whatever you can manage isn't necessary, though retreat mode or maybe something of your own can work too, though I imagine it would be harder to tell when to cut back with something less consistent. |

Heartoflove, welcome
I think what you are saying here is 'Japa' of mantra and not 'Dhyan' (Meditation). And in the deep maditation book, yogani suggested not to use the mantra for japa outside your sitting practice/meditation.
I belive we keep nearing to the state of no disturbance as inner silence rises through regular practice. And for that, japa is not very necessary.
Personally I would like to get some distractions coming my way when walking throuh Wal-Mart, or else I may trip over or bump into something ... kidding!
