I was inspired to talk about finding music, when somebody mentioned in another thread that "music is crap today". You can't depend on radio, TV, or other people's tastes when you have eclectic tastes yourself. Recently I wanted to find music that is compatible with extreme stretching for a class, so I searched last.fm, Amazon.com, and google for "trip hop", and other branches. Once I found something i like, I searched more within the genre. There is so much more good music available today, you just have to spend some time looking. These are slow to be compatible with stretching:
Thanks maheswari - those are quite different. What i was trying to say is there is lots of good music out there - you have to find it yourself. You can't rely on other people or the media to find it.
the good thing in the past was that the media was playing good stuff....now intelligent media (tv shows, movies, books ,music) has to be searched for ...unless one wants to be stuck in the mold...and this mold is creating more and more a brain dead consumer based society...but people are waking up by themselves as Sex Pistols say: dont be told want what u want dont be told what u need/ from God save the queen lyrics
Yes, that is what i was trying to say. Guess I shouldn't have put my own likes in the post, especially since my likes are eclectic. But actually things are much better now- people like me with eclectic tastes can fins plenty of things we like. Used to be you turned the radio dial for hours and there was nothing good. Then I would spend all day in the record/cd store listening to samples, and maybe find one thing I liked a little.
Now there are lots of services like Amazon and last.fm. Just take something you like, find it there, and branch out looking in the same genre. much more convenient than all day at the store. I used to feel guilty using the store's resources all day and not buying anything. and so time consuming too; they let me borrow three CD's at a time, it took 10 minutes to load them up and sample every track. Now I can sample hundreds of tracks in an hour online. And much more variety is available than even the biggest stores.
