Hi all,
I meditate on my breathing most of the time, but I also use a mantra sometimes, and common effects of my meditations are the sensations that I am spinning and also a sensation that the space around me is expanding.
It might be hard to explain these sensations because it's not something that I ever experienced outside my meditation practices.
With the spinning sensation, I feel that my whole body is moving from one side to the other, imaging you're walking and moving a flashlight side to side to illuminate the path in front of you. It's always on the same pace, moving not too fast and not too slow. Let's say 2 seconds from one side of the other (I never counted tho). Probably a close comparison is if you ever got drunk (not that I often get) and close your eyes you'll feel your head spinning. But with the meditation one the sensation is more gentle and pleasing.
With the "space expansion" sensation it just feels like I am losing touch or sense with the physical space around me. I normally meditate in my room and when this happens it feels like that I am not in my room, like there's nothing around me but space and it feels like growing.
I feel particularly good after the meditation session when these sensations occur.
But my question is.. could this be a sign that the breath or mantra has served their purpose and these sensations are the new object(s) of my meditation?
Also, I would love to hear if you have had similar experiences and have a better way to describe them.

Spinning and sensations of expansion are symptoms of purification and opening. They are good experiences, and will come and go. In the AYP approach these would not become objects of meditation, and neither would any experiences coming up. The procedure is to favor the mantra, or the breath, whichever you are using as object, not going back and forth, or following experiences as objects of meditation, no matter how pleasant or dramatic they may be. Whenever we notice we are off into thoughts or experiences, we just easily come back to the mantra, or breath. It is the procedure of meditation that creates the purification and opening that may also bring experiences. The experiences themselves are symptoms of purification and opening, a passing show.
What we are looking for is a permanent transformation in our quality of life. For that we continue to favor the procedure of practice. Then we gradually experience a deepening integration of inner silence and ecstasy, leading to a more fulfilling and divinely infused life.
Note: The spinning sensations could be related to opening of the ida and pingala on either side of the central sushumna (spinal nerve) - see Lesson 90 and others on ida and pingala. The expansion sensation is related to refinement of awareness to stillness, inner silence, pure bliss consciousness - see Lesson 157 and others on the expansion of awareness.

Really appreciated your feedback and great to hear that these sensations are a good sign. I will follow your advise to not go back and forth and gently come back to the meditation object.
