Hi All:
Thanks to a skilled team of behind-the-scenes volunteers, we have just launched an AYP Survey, covering many aspects of practice and experience. You can find it linked on the top menu of the main website, and about two-thirds of the way down the left border under "More Resources" on all website and forum pages.
Here is a direct link to the survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ayp-survey
It will be appreciated if everyone will go and put in their "two cents" on practices and experiences. The survey will take only a few minutes to complete. It is ongoing, with no planned end date. You can take the survey periodically as your practices and experiences develop over time.
The overall results report covering all previous responses can be viewed after completing the survey, or by clicking "Exit this survey" at the top of the survey page.
You can submit questions or feedback on the survey by emailing the AYP Surveys Administrator.
Looking forward to seeing the picture of our ever-evolving collective experience with the AYP system as many provide feedback through the AYP Survey.
Many thanks, and all the best on your path. Practice wisely, and enjoy!
The guru is in you.
PS: There are additional surveys in the works that will focus in more detail on yoga and health, cross-tradition practice, and other areas of special interest. These will be announced when they are available.

Hi All:
Thought it might be interesting to summarize some of the notable AYP Survey results to date. It has been almost a week since we rolled it out and we have 83 responses so far. Here is what stands out for the eight question categories:
1. 70% have been doing AYP for more than one year.
2. 80% have done other practices before coming to AYP.
3. 90% do deep meditation, 80% spinal breathing pranayama, 50% asanas, 50% samyama, 30-40% mudras/bandhas/siddhasana, 25% tantra, 40% self-inquiry, and 10% attended AYP retreats.
4. 80% practice every day, with the majority twice each day.
5. 55% practice more than 30 minutes per session.
6. 50% have scaled back (self-paced) practices at some point.
7. 70% feel calm and aware, 55% feel happy and in tune with life, 25% feel ecstatic, 50% feel compassionate with a desire to help others, and 35% feel free.
8. 50% feel more energy and interest in life, 45% sleep better, 20-30% feel less need for alcohol/caffeine/drugs, 40% are eating healthier, and 45% have fewer colds/flu.
Note: About 25% of respondents did not answer the health questions in #8 at all, and we are not sure exactly what that means. There are several theories. What do you think? A more comprehensive survey on yoga and health is in the works, which will be used to support research in the medical community.
The detailed results of the survey can be viewed here. If you have not taken the survey yet and wish to, you can do that here.
Thank you for sharing your experiences. It is useful information for many.
Wishing you all the best on your continuing path. Practice wisely, and enjoy!

Hi Yogani,
I don't have answered to the question #8 because i have only 6 months of AYP. I have some impact on my diet and alcohol consumption but this is moderate and i have only noticed this happening the fifth month.
The rate of the practitioners with less than one year of AYP is of 29.2%...maybe a clue.
Thanks for your hard work and the creation of this community... |

Hi JimProfit:
Thanks much for your feedback. The ratio of less than 1 year to more than 1 year practitioners is something we had not considered in relation to responses on health effects, or anything else for that matter. Now that you mention it, it is obvious.
It is not the only factor affecting health question responses, but certainly one to consider.
Over the long term, the ratio of shorter to longer time practicing will also tell us how AYP is doing "keeping the door open" for new practitioners around the world, something we are very interested in.
The survey results have so many interesting angles that we could only sense generally before, and are now being brought into better focus. It is a mirror of the community of practitioners.
All the best!

Hi All:
It has been a while since this topic has been active.
Just wanted to encourage everyone who has been using AYP who has not filled out the survey to take a few minutes to do it at your earliest convenience. Participation is anonymous.
There has been some behind-the-scenes discussion on using the AYP survey data to populate a study on the utilization of spiritual practices and their effects on quality of life and health.
We currently have nearly 300 responses, and whenever it goes beyond 500, we will be getting into statistically credible publishing territory.
Even if you are not inclined to take the survey at this time, you might find the results so far to be interesting -- showing a fairly clear profile on how the AYP practices are being used and the results that practitioners are finding.
Many thanks!
The guru is in you.
PS: Links to the AYP Survey can also be found on the top and left side menus on the main website, and on the bottom menu on the main website and all forum pages too.
