There is this well known story about Sage Narada being asked by a Yogi and a Layman to find out from Lord Vishnu as to when they would be enlightened and merge with the Absolute.Sage Narada offers to do so and returns later to tell the Yogi that Lord Vishnu had confirmed that the Yogi would have enlightnment after another 3 births.The Yogi immediately becomes crestfallen and curses his destiny! Narada next tells the layman (who was sitting under a tree full of leaves) ’As many leaves as there are on the tree under which you sit, so many births must you take before being enlightened .’”.The layman exults that he would have enlightnment.The moment he accepted this, a strong wind came and made all the tree leaves fall on the ground.At the same moment the layman became enlightned.
