A glass can be perceived as empty when it is expected to be full with wine. It does not need to be full of wine to be complete, it is already full of air molecules.
Emptiness is a belief that something is needed to fill the space. Often something already fills the space and cannot be observed because of an expectation that something else should be there instead.

Hi John,
I think Karl is right, everything is already full, only we don't notice because we are conditioned to look for what is missing. And Mahabarata is right too, emptiness is the absence of love.
You could also say that emptiness is the perception that all conditioned phenomena do not possess inherent independent existence, but instead are interdependent. This means that nothing begins or ends, and there is no point at which one thing stops and another begins. It is true of objects, thoughts, feelings and consciousness itself. It is both a tool for moving beyond mental perception, and an aspect of the direct perception of reality.

A beautiful girl smiles at you and you feel love and joy while holding her warm hand in yours.
The girl, her beauty, her smile, your feeling of love and joy, the hand... are all empty.
You had a fight with your boss before he fired you this evening. Had a quarrel with your wife earlier in the morning. Now you are stuck in a traffic jam for hours and extremely frustrated.
The fights, the boss, your wife, traffic jam, frustrated hours... are all empty.
EMPTINESS IS A NAME FOR NOTHINGNESS, A NAME FOR UNGRASPABILITY, A NAME FOR MOUNTAINS, RIVERS, THE WHOLE EARTH. IT IS ALSO CALLED THE REAL FORM. IN THE GREEN OF THE PINES, THE TWIST OF THE BRAMBLES, THERE IS NO GOING OR COMING. IN THE RED OF THE FLOWERS AND THE WHITE OF THE SNOW, THERE IS NO BIRTH AND NO DEATH.
JOY, ANGER, LOVE, PLEASURE -- THESE ARE BEGINNINGLESS AND ENDLESS DELUSION. ENLIGHTENMENT, PRACTICE, REALIZATION -- THESE ARE INEXHAUSTIBLE AND BOUNDLESS. THUS, EMPTINESS IS THE NAME FOR NOTHING ELSE; ALL THINGS ARE THE REAL FORM. IN ALL WORLDS, IN ALL DIRECTIONS, THERE IS NO SECOND, NO THIRD.
THEREFORE, IN THE FUNDAMENTAL VEHICLE THERE IS NO DELUSION OR ENLIGHTENMENT, NO PRACTICE OR REALIZATION. EVEN TO SPEAK OF PRACTICE AND REALIZATION IS A RELATIVE VIEW.
IN OUR SCHOOL, FROM THE FIRST ENTRY, THIS POINT SHOULD BE PRACTICED WHETHER SITTING, LYING DOWN, OR WALKING AROUND. WHEN SLEEPING, JUST SLEEPING, THERE IS NO PAST OR FUTURE. WHEN YOU AWAKEN, THERE IS NO SLEEP EITHER. THIS IS CALLED THE ABSOLUTE HOST. ~Master Ryusui
I was watching The Matrix yesterday. In a scene Neo (the good guy) is fighting with Agent Smith (the bad guy) at a subway train station.
While they both dodge each others bullets, a moment comes when they come so close they are both pointing their guns on each other's heads.
Agent Smith says to Neo: YOU ARE EMPTY.
Neo smiles and replies: SO ARE YOU.
They were both empty and yet one is good and the other is bad. And they continue to fight and run for their lives.
This is the beauty of emptiness.
Going to watch Sanctum3D with my family this weekend.
