I'm sure if an enlightened person said this in was in a specific context where it made sense. Or it was to break a devotee's fixation on some aspect of the path.
But, yes, in more mundane "hip" cases the concept is nonsense. It's like saying why drink water, your body is 75% full of it. Doh!
