Hi all,
Did anyone read "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert?
It's really great! I loved the part where she goes to India. (it's a true story about her deep transformation, so it really spoke to me).
So now there's a movie that's about to come out (August 13 in the US). It might be good.
Here is the trailer.

I realize this is an old post, but I just finished the book, so I thought I'd bump it up again. Can't say I liked the writing style, but I noticed immediately that her guru is Gurumayi Chidvilasananda and Gurumayi's guru of course is Swami Muktananda. I was a little disappointed that she didn't mention any of the controversy surrounding Baba Muktanda, Gurumayi, or SYDA YOGA.I don't think writers need to stir up dirt, but since this is a memoir and she provided a lot of info about Gurumayi and Baba Muktananda (and a bit of a sales pitch for Yoga) with out telling the readers who they are, she could have at least tell the buyer beware side of things as well.
My Yoga friend at work lived at that ashram in the '70's for about 3 years. He hasn't read the book yet, but I'm going to pass it on to him. I described some of the Ashramites in the book to him as well as the area and he recognized both of them (places and people). I haven't seen the movie, but I think I will probably watch it. I'm curious to see what they did with the dream sequences with Baba Muktananda. |
