Into the eyes of Medusa

I am afraid to look at you,
for you force me into my pain;
there is no mercy in your heart
to take pity on me.
I could run away from your gaze,
and I have tried,
but I am pulled back each time
by your fearful beauty.
My thoughts come in torrents,
and tell me that your kind
doesn’t care,
that I am a pawn in a game,
a sacrifice to appease a king;
and each time I look into the
eyes of Medusa,
my heart is turned to stone;
no refuge, no mercy.
You hold a space, an empty space,
that I have tried to reach;
it is like a mirror,
that sees through the façade,
and reflects what I wish no one
could see.
What is it that you see?
