It is quite interesting, although surely it is within that "controversial" debate whether we really "work" our way towards enlightenment or we just realise what we always had been spontaneously, as a causeless phenomenon. A fruitless debate really, much better to go on doing what we believe we should be doing.
I "believe" both views: we are both completely born enlightened (and always will be) and we can "become" enlightened. Seems paradoxical but it really isn't, I believe. One of those "divine paradoxes" :)
