i stood upon the wooden deck
and gazed at distant storms

the lightning flashed
inside the clouds,
illuminating forms

illuminating,
from within,
a brainlike thunderhead

compressing waves
of heated air,
which at Mach One, outspread

some time went by,
and then i heard
the lightning's symphony

its atmospheric shockwave beat
my eardrums' timpani

a membrane quaked and told a nerve
what sound my mind should hear

and in my mind i heard the sound
of thunder in my ear

our brains are like those thunderheads'
grey convoluted forms

illuminated from within
by neural lightning storms

the witness sees inside the mind
an awesome lightning show

observing in the silent bliss
a thunder-thoughtform grow

the thunder rolls and fades away

the lightning flashes die

the clouds are gone

the sky is clear

and what remains is I
