has anyone here used Yoga Nidra specifically, and then come to AYP,if so how did you find the comparison? thanks |

Hi Snake:
I can't answer your question specifically, but can say that AYP Cosmic Samyama is a powerful form of Yoga Nidra. We look at Yoga Nidra as a high octane practice further down the line in the over all scheme of AYP, coming after deep meditation and core samyama practice are well-established.
Which is not to say those who begin with another style of Yoga Nidra elsewhere and come to AYP later are on a wrong track. Surely not. It is a great place to be coming to AYP from. Anyplace is.
The main differences between Cosmic Samyama and most styles of Yoga Nidra practice are:
1. From the beginning, Cosmic Samyama is inner-guided rather than guided by an external CD or other person.
2. Samyama technique is used in the practice sequence of touching 16 realms (in sutra form) within and outside the physical body, which systematically cultivates the process of dynamically expanding stillness on the individual and cosmic levels -- the two being the same.
Cosmic Samyama is covered in the AYP Samyama book.
The guru is in you.

I practice one of the Yoga Nidra's developed by Satyananda Saraswati, and its quite different from Yogani's. There are a great many details to be aware of with classic Yoga Nidra, and to get a good grip on them you should read "Yoga Nidra" by Saraswati. I also like Yogani's approach, which can dove-tail onto Samyama and Deep Meditaion...whereas Yoga Nidra as it was originally developed must be practiced by itself because it can take over an hour from start to finish. There is also a very effective and no-effort type of Yoga Nidra that is designed to impact your consciousness via your Subtle Body only. How it works is; you are fast asleep in the middle of the night, but your subtle body is still wide awake and able to follow a series of suggestions which it then allows to become part of your deep levels of being and filter right past your mundane consciousness. People have learned not one, but multiple foreign languages with this practice - quickly and effortlessly. Also complex mathmatics and other detailed and ordinarily difficult subjects have been easily absorbed. And simple Sankalpa commands are easily able to become part of your "self" in this way. How its done is, you record a block of information ( lets say, Yogani's words for Samyama or his words for his version of Yoga Nidra) onto an audio cassette, place the cassette in a player and plug it into a wall timer which will turn it on at a specific hour when you're sure to be fast asleep. The volume is set very low ( the subtle body is accutely aware and can hear what's being said very well without high volume! ). So, you sleep, the cassette is played for a half hour or hour, and then the timer shuts off the player. In the morning, you rewind the player, and consciously listen to the block of information while having breakfast. This establishes a conscious doorway and "okay" between your gross body and subtle body to integrate the information you'd like to become part of your consciousness. And you do this night and morning, night and morning, until in a short time you know that you've assimilated the information. Then you change it or advance to other information - this is how complete languages are learned while asleep. Complete details can be found in Saraswati's book "Yoga Nidra".
