Hi Satish,

Are you being ironic? :)

Please understand that what I wrote below didn't mean to be arrogant or my
final opinion. I joined this forum to learn and I believe that exposing my
ideas, even if wrong or naif, is the best way to learn.

I didn't understand what you meant.

Hi Everyone -

I have not introduced myself yet, but my name is Paula. I remember some of
you from various other sites, so hello

To old friends and greetings to new! I just had a Baby girl, Kairi
Elizabeth, who is now 4 months old, so I don't get to write terribly often

But do read through all of the posts. Luckily, she happens to be napping
right now!

I completely understand the rising sensitivity to the "actions of others/
state of the world" that some experience. When I first began

Taking a conscious responsibility over my spiritual life, certain
realizations would stab into my solar plexus like a knife and then slowly
twist

Over a period of time until I came to a new realization (a healing I
suppose). What I have learned is that these realizations change over time,

And some even come back again in new light. I learn, I change, and life
continues to be.

Good/Bad, right/wrong.it's so perceptional that I don't even think about it
anymore. It's been amazing considering that once I felt completely chained
by these attributes I apply. Given time, I Am certain that I will read these
words and feel the familiar twisting jab causing me to grow and learn even
more.

The question: "Who are you?" or "who am I?" seems a very wise question to
me. I come from a western background, and therefore in my mind it is a
lesson in humility. I knew a Buddhist teacher who would simply call it a
distraction. Either way, the question brings me back towards where I prefer
my attention to be.

What I have found in myself is that it is a matter of surrender. So -
arrogant, rude, enlightened, wise, or however I choose to see something at
this moment, doesn't matter. I continue learn and change and life continues
to be. Things simply "are." The question "who am I" helps me to remember
that these are attributes that I am applying in the first place, and that
"I" am the only thing that I can control. All else I must let go.surrender
to the great divine. I remember my place as a student of the great teacher.

As my yoga instructor once said, "Who told you yoga was supposed to feel
good?" Not that it has to feel bad, mind you, but it is a journey and all
journeys have their rough spots. Just hold true to your meditation and you
will navigate through it soon enough. It isn't a difference of levels; it is
a difference in position. In physics, a difference in position does not
equal distance traveled. You might find yourself here again some day with a
new perspective.

Anyway, nice to meet you all :-)

"I" am the only thing that I must control. All else must go. Very
well said Paula, especially I liked the last two paras.

Satish and Nuna, good thoughts.

Definitely there are both bad and good people in this world. Being
good to everybody is easy said than done. But I think that is the
ideal we all should aim for. Someday we will no more differentiate
between ppl anymore (as we do more practices) as we open up from
inside.

At the same time being good to everyone doesnt mean giving up
always. It includes "fighting for" too when required. All depends on
the purpose. As vivekananda rightly says, a yogi should not be
passive. In his words "You will be stronger through playing football
than reading gita".

I think things will become clearer to us as we practise.

Love,
Near

Nuno,

I think he is just trying to ease up the tension of the long
argument that went between you by "giving up" a bit.

Peace brother,
Near

The goal of all meditation or spiritual practices or AYP should be
in doing good and becoming good. Isnt it? It should be. Otherwise
our lives can go onto the dangerous side with these powerful
practices in our hand. There is every possibility of misusing them
if we dont decide within ourselves to be good.

AYP can give us powers, can give us control, can give us the ability
to "be cool". At the same time we should also use it to make our
conscience stronger. I do recollect Yogani saying that AYP practices
will naturally make us more good too but still I think we need to
put efforts from our own side. Atleast thats some scale on which we
can test our progress. Am I less selfish today compared to yesterday
is the question we need to ask ourselves everyday.

Ofcourse whenever i try to be good and unselfish, my genetical
obstructions and my past life karma obstructions will come in the
way. I wont force myself and do good against these. But I gently try
to push the limits and see if I can be unselfish. Thats how I test
myself. With increasing meditation practices everyday, slowly I feel
we will become more unselfish and more of divine nature.

Please share your opinions on what you think about karma yoga and AYP

Thanks,
Near
