Hi Babaram,
There is no need to meditate effortlessly. It is a noble goal, but with meditation, whatever happens, happens. Sometimes the going is easy, but at other times deep-rooted emotions or memories can rise to the surface, making things more difficult. It is all meditation and is all fine.
When practicing Deep Meditation, coming back to the mantra should be effortless, each time you lose it. If powerful thoughts, or emotions are rising to the surface, making it difficult to easily favour the mantra, then you can simply rest your attention with the object that has arisen,. Eventually it will dissolve, and you can effortlessly favour the mantra again.
This is discussed in lesson 15:

Babaram, I see you had posted requesting guidance for meditation in 2006 when you were new to AYP. I'd be curious to hear how you've done for the last 20 years. Are you just now returning to AYP? Can you clarify what you are trying to achieve with meditation and for how long you've been doing your meditation now and what types you've tried over the last 20 something years. |
