Hello AYP,

Is DM lacking any dimension over the mid to long run that mindfulness meditation (watching thoughts specifically) provides and vice versa?

Experimented with mindfulness for two days and noticed a significant improvement in focus, clarity, and the quality of insights popping up. It gave me the feeling that the "fuzziness" and feel-good of DM masks the deep, clinical, and chiseled perception of pure awareness through mindfulness.

New to DM (just a few weeks) and wondering if this could be why those qualities aren't apparent as yet.

Also, what are your thoughts on integrating mindfulness (watching thoughts) as a separate practice into a routine with SBP and DM?

Best wishes.

Hi pranar,

This would be considered doubling up of practice. DM is a simple but a powerful practice. You have just started, give it sometime. With the rise of witness- watching thoughts happens, it's not something we have to do(this can get exhausting).

This lesson may answer some of your questions.

The Witness developes by the mid-run of AYP DM, and mindfulness becomes a natural state. You are but a few weeks in, and from some of your other posts, perhaps impatient, no? Sunyata is right that it's doubling up, not to say you absolutely can't, but if things "go wrong" how do you know which practice is responsible? My advice is to pick the practice that will serve you for the long run and explore it fully and exclusively.

Two days, two weeks, are too soon to make any declarations or endorsements on a practice. A trial drug might cure cancer in a single mouse, only until it cures cancers in thousands of mice can you have confidence you are on to something.
