Hello AYP,
Yogani's books suggest 5 minutes of SBP prior to 20 minutes of DM. Is there a ratio there of some sort? I meditate for 45 - 60 minutes twice a day and I'm wondering whether upping my SBP practice of 5 minutes before DM sessions is advisable and if it will further optimise them.
Thanks! |

Hi Pranar,
The recommendation is to begin with 5 minutes of SBP and to gradually increase the time to 10 minutes.
See here.
"Begin by doing this spinal breathing practice for five minutes before your regular meditations. We don't get up between pranayama and meditation. Just keep your seat, and begin meditation when your pranayama time is up. Take a minute or so before effortlessly beginning the mantra, just as originally instructed. Once you get comfortable in the routine of doing pranayama and meditation, one after the other, increase the time of pranayama to ten minutes. You will be doing ten minutes of pranayama and twenty minutes of meditation twice each day. Continue with this practice. "
So there is a ratio there which is 1:2. But this is not a fixed ratio. Some people will be doing only 20 mins DM, twice a day when they start out with AYP practice, with no SBP at all. Others, who may be more advanced, could be reducing SBP timings deliberately due to the speed of purification happening in the body. So they many be doing only 2 minutes of Spinal Breathing, with 20 mins meditation.
Christi
Note: Edited for correct timings. |
