Is it normal to be aware of (Hearing) external noise while doing the meditation? While I am repeating 'I AM' in my mind, i hear some one walking near by as well as other noises (Water faucet open, dog breathing, Car moving sound etc.)
Is this because, I am a beginner and haven't reached the deeper stage?
Its no big deal, I'm sure most meditators here hear sounds during meditation. Pratyahara (introversion of the senses) tends to occur further along the path.
That's right, external noises are just one of the distractions occurring during meditation (as well as thoughts, internal sensations and feelings). Let them come and let them go. We go back to the mantra every time we notice we are off it.
