I feel so lost. I'm so sad, bitter, and lonely. I've tried so hard. I can't keep any friends. It's been a singeing ride, and now I feel it collapsing into numbness, apathy.

The Mangled Crown

Here is a tale of a sad little thing,
that people call a philosopher king.

Naught but a warrior without foe,
hollow prince with nothing to show.

Under neglect and capricious rage
was his boyhood spent in coming of age.

Beatings and scorn fed his concealed shame,
while poisons flowed freely, time and again.

At fourteen, while at college to learn,
his flowered speech baffled every in turn.

On the green lawns would he give discourse,
until callous scorn was their only recourse.

He, sickly in strength, handsome yet jagged,
knows darkest despair that stings us ragged.

A dreaming idler, like an irksome sore
on pristine record of Academy’s lore.

What circle has found no angled slants
to pierce and discredit his cryptic rants?

Some light has shown him on a path
to stay his hand from unbridled wrath.

How near it is, and sweet it must be
to just once loose the venom free.

With every step is polished his crown,
of razor wit, bitterness, rubble come down.

That stately crown of fools with no halls
that gleams, scrapes, twists, and mauls.

A knower without a claim,
a seeker without an aim.

A gust, deflated,
defeated, related.

To vanquish mighty demons keep your pen as your sword.
Clearing a path through them will be your reward.

(my feeble attempt at encouragement of continuing your work!)

Strong poetry!

Remember, Anima, the path is lit by the fire of our trials. The torches of suffering light the way to freedom. It is the hard times that will define your character and shape you into the resilient being you want to become. This is the only way...to start from scratch and experience the full ride.

Take her easy.

Servitor

Won’t you let me go, Lord?
He raves atop a red-hot dais
Buried in his mighty fortress:
A little man with Your voice,
Who bangs a steel hammer
Into black, steely walls.

They ring with bitter, echoed
Screams: Rats, filth, vermin!
He’s steeled himself against
The rotten warmth of life.
Who would listen?
Who would love him?

He’s lower than a worm,
Sicker than a leper.
He’s a god of his own pain.
Who could touch him there?
How could You spare him--
Stamp him out, Promiser!

He strikes relentlessly
His dreadful, iron shell.
To temper the seams
Against his escape.
He would never leave,
And I will not go back.

I will usurp Your kingdom.
Your throne will be cracked.
My first decree will see You,
Kneeling and castrated.
I will throw You down into
His little hell, forever.

Or You could let me go,
Out into the cold north.
Let me leave him bound.
There’s no other way:
I can’t bear to serve You
If I must embrace him.

(Edited to more fully express the dynamic between bitterness and reluctance.)
