Hello fellows AYP-ers
I came across several comments with regards to Mulabandha and how the sexual energy can go down instead of up in the early days of practising it. Wouldn't that make a good reason to start practising Sambhavi first and get a pull from the third eye to direct the energy upwards? Yogani must have a good reason for teaching the two in this order, but I can't figure it out. Would any of you be so kind as to enlighten me on this matter?

Mula is safer for one. Sambhavi also takes quite a lot of silence but mula can be found without silence. 2cents

Hi BlueRaincoat:

TTN is right in his points. Also, mulabandha works at the source of ecstatic energy (kundalini) at the root, while sambhavi at the brow (third eye) is very good for expanding energy already active in the neurobiology. Eventually, with the advance of ecstatic conductivity, all the mudras and bandhas become a single connected whole-body reflex, and increasingly subtle.

If energy is coming down before the root is awakened, then yes, sambhavi can be helpful for expanding it in a balanced way. But that is a less common scenario, most often related to crown opening, hopefully not premature.

The safer, more stable sequence is bottom first and then cultivate it in a balanced way throughout the nervous system, and beyond. Sambhavi is part of that. And all the other techniques participate in it as well. In the AYP approach, it all begins with deep meditation and spinal breathing pranayama.

All the best!

The guru is in you.

PS: Mulabandha and Sambhavi are covered in consecutive lessons right after Kundalini is introduced, so they are instructed at practically the same time. Other mudras and bandhas, crown opening, and additional aspects of energetic awakening are covered later on.

Wow, the mula-sambhavi sequence makes complete sense based on recent experience with sambhavi. I didn't recognize it for what it was.
