Budai is said to travel giving candy to poor children, only asking a penny from Zen monks or lay practitioners he meets. One day a monk walks up to him and asks, "What is the meaning of Zen?" Budai drops his bag. "How does one realize Zen?" he continues. Budai then takes up his bag and continues on his way. |

Love it! To be yourSelf, all you have to do is drop everything.
But what about all the stuff you don't even know you're holding onto? I have pennies stuck all over! |

No particular spiritual meaning whatsoever, except the beauty of the moment, but as long as we were doing Haikus I thought I'd throw it in
Thank you. Great thread.

To collapse and crumble In a victorious defeat of paradoxes Will reveal: what is fragile, and what is strong? |

Holding together Is like restraining the wind. It blows nonetheless. |

To make mistakes is inevitable To fall into incomprehensible bliss is our destiny To let the flow of knowingness overcome the intellect is wisdom. |

I read about haiku, and English haiku relax the rules applied to Japanese, which are quite rigid. In Japanese, it is not just 5,7,5 syllables, as Japanese units are shorter than the syllable, where the word "rain" would count as three. Then they have to have a reference to the season, and two juxtaposed ideas with a "cutting" word in between, which determines the relationship between the two ideas, which must be every day observable, not just concepts. How's that for difficult? |

LOL I'm finding 5,7,5 quite challenging! I didn't know about the other structural requirements. I think it's interesting that the two juxtaposed ideas are happening kind of naturally, but the core stories I'm distilling here are all concepts. It might be fun to do a real Haiku. |

What do I want most? Viewing my thoughts, I find I Want to be precious.
Why do I believe That I'm not already all I wish to become?
Who wants to be special? |

Don't look for my aid. There's no such thing as rescue. Extricate yourself.

He was perfect The mirror of my Love Reflecting my Love perfectly Far from perfect was my Love I slowly realized From staring at the perfectly reflected imperfections And still I screamed And still I raged For diamond brilliance Of a perfect Love.
