Hello everyone,
I am thinking of going to the Vipassana retreat sometimes next year for ten days. I am practicing now twice a day the 20 min meditation. Is it ok to take a ten day break and do another type meditation.
Thank you,

hello Narayani is it ok? well as long as you dont mix the 2 techniques together... but the real question is: what technique are you going to stick to? after those 10 days are you going to do dm or vipassana?
of course it is your choice (it is always a free personal choice) but you need to stick to one technique only ... digging many shallow holes wont lead to the hidden water...whereas digging 1 deep hole will certainly lead to the hidden water
anyway you can do the retreat and see afterwards which technique feels better for you all the best on your chosen path!

Thank you,
Definitely. A concentrated 10 day retreat can be very powerful/helpful. But, in picking your ongoing meditation style, try not to compare the impact of 10 full days to 20 min a day of DM.

I'm planning to do 10 day vipassana also. The insights into the three characteristics - impermanence, suffering, non-self and the attainment of jhanas... make the vipassana style path interesting, it's very focussed on specific insights, and a systematic path of progressive insight leading to enlightenment. A good related book is the unusually hardcore dharma book by daniel ingram. Please report back with your experiences, we will be very curious! :-) |

Thank you for all your insights. I will share with you my thoughts of the retreat! I would love to hear yours as well! Best of luck with all of you. I guess it is something that is calling me right now. For sure, I will keep practicing twice a day the Iam meditation after the retreat, stay grounded and not overdoing it. |
