Here are some mystic music pieces for the soul from Persian Sufi/classical music:
Ever since I've learned about kundalini, my horizons on Persian Sufi Poetry (of Rumi, Hafez, Saadi, etc.) have expanded; I think in many cases when they talk about "aatash" (meaning "fire") they are actually referring to the fire within (kundalini).
Here is a Rumi poem, talking about the pain of separation from his lover, which can mean God or an ordinary lover (they never talk directly), but in the middle of the poem (at 10:38 of video) he talks about wearing “a clothing of fire” which makes him light up the world like a sun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHtyuI666MQ
Here is just one verse from Saadi (at 8:30 of video). Basically saying: I've tried so hard to conceal the secret of love, though I couldn't help but boil over fire (couldn't hide the secret because of fire of love): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoN...bg&index=268

A fan-made video of "Lateralus" by Tool: http://youtu.be/36dI2ILZtrs
"Lateralus" lyrics:
Black then white are all I see In my infancy, Red and yellow then came to be, Reaching out to me, Lets me see.
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine Drawn beyond the lines of reason. Push the envelope. Watch it bend.
Over thinking, Over analyzing Separates the body from the mind. Withering my intuition, Missing opportunities and I must Feed my will to feel my moment Drawing way outside the lines.
Black then white are all i see In my infancy. Red and yellow then came to be, Reaching out to me, Lets me see. There is so much more and Beckons me to look through to these Infinite possibilities. As below, so above and beyond, I imagine Drawn outside the lines of reason. Push the envelope. Watch it bend.
Over thinking, Over analyzing Separates the body from the mind. Withering my intuition, Leaving opportunities behind.
Feed my will to feel this moment Urging me to cross the line. Reaching out to embrace the random. Reaching out to embrace whatever may come.
I embrace my Desire to I embrace my Desire to Feel the rhythm, To feel connected Enough to step aside And weep like a widow To feel inspired To fathom the power To witness the beauty To bathe in the fountain, To swing on the spiral To swing on the spiral To... Swing on the spiral of our divinity and Still be a human.
With my feet upon the ground I lose myself between the sounds And open wide to suck it in I feel it move across my skin I'm reaching up and reaching out I'm reaching for the random or Whatever will bewildered me Whatever will bewildered me And following our will and wind We may just go where no one's been We'll ride the spiral to the end And may just go where no one's been Spiral out Keep going Spiral out Keep going Spiral out Keep going Spiral out Keep going

Alive by P.O.D.
There is a cool story behind this (to me, anyways).
P.O.D. is a Christian band, and the song is quite obviously about God (just listen to the lyrics). It came out in the summer of 2001, and was very popular at the time and therefore getting a lot of radio play.
I was deeply depressed at that time, and this song was one of a few that gave me hope and comforted me. It inspired me and made me look to God, who I was not a big fan of at the time. But this song was inspiring and instrumental to my spiritual awakening that happened in November of 2001.
I was driving on a freeway overpass one morning in L.A., in November of 2001. This was only 2 months after the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center, which affected me deeply despite my cynical attitude. The night before, I was at a party where I consumed ecstasy and a lot of alcohol. I hadn't slept all night and was still feeling the effects of the intoxicants. Before the party, I was in a mood of feeling regret for the way I'd been treating my loved ones, and was rather depressed and hoping to make amends and change the way I was living my life.
On the overpass that morning, a song came on the radio that was very personally meaningful to me. It was a song I strongly related to and sang to comfort myself when I felt down. It wasn't this song, it was Under the Bridge by RHCP. This song comes on at very meaningful times in my life, and there is always a strong sense of synchronicity when I hear it.
Anyways, this song came on and I had a spiritual awakening. I can't possibly describe the experience, but my whole consciousness opened up and I felt loved, and that everything was perfect, and what I've described as feeling the presence of God for the first time in my adult life. I wept at the sheer beauty of what I felt, and this was the turning point that eventually put me on a real spiritual path and led me to AYP and yoga.
This was the defining moment of my life.
Anyways, I've liked the P.O.D. song ever since that period of my life, but I had never seen the video. Then, only about 2 years ago, I saw the video for the first time and got chills up my spine. I saw the overpass in the video and realized that it was the same exact overpass where I had my spiritual awakening. I did some research and confirmed that it was indeed the same freeway overpass where I had the awakening.
The End.

Hi All,
Last Saturday night at our (most-awesome-as-always ) Michigan Retreat, I was discussing conscious-spiritual music with Bodhi Tree, who had shared some of his compelling and highly-listenable original songs with us all, pre-Kirtan.
In doing so, I re-connected with my own appreciation for Trevor Hall, and found this gem ... inspired by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda.
Brand New Day By Trevor Hall
Don't fall asleep in the snow Come up up up from below Wipe the sleep from your eyes oh my my Shake the dust off your hands and Come run free on this land If you want to survive ay ay It's time to wake up and sing It's time to wake up and sing ayyy
Put the crown on the king Put the crown on the king Put the crown on the king yeah Live your life Come rise up come give love What you waiting for It's a brand new day All along here and now What you waiting for It's a brand new day
Now fallen soldiers arise Raise your hands towards the sky I tell ya Mama's alive Lift up your love to the sky The sky don't question why the strength is of another kind Don't look around just look inside Ain't no lie it never dies so Were gonna wake up and sing Were gonna wake up and sing yeah ahh
[Chorus] Put the crown on the king Put the crown on the king Put the crown on the king yeah Live your life Come rise up come give love What you waiting for It's a brand new day All along here and now What you waiting for It's a brand new day
Oh ah oh ah oh ah ohhh oh oh Oh ah oh ah oh ah ohhh oh oh Oh ah oh ah oh ah ohhh oh oh Oh ah oh ah oh ah ohhh oh oh
Sun coming up and everyone knows Holding on to a time it's time to let go This aint for the money and not for the show Like a river come down like a river come flow I know you know we live we see Were running to the rhythm and the rhythm don't sleep Cook up the mixture tell all the listeners This is the sound and we've come to listen
Come rise up come give love What you waiting for It's a brand new day All along here and now What you waiting for It's a brand new day
Song/Video -- Brand New Day by Trevor Hall
Enjoy!

It's so easy to fall into the trap of thinking there's something to gain ... something to attain .... when it's all only about the letting go.

You're most welcome!
Here's one Trevor Hall did with Krishna Das, called My Baba -- about Neem Karoli Baba -- Trevor Hall and Krishna Das are both devotees of Neem Karoli Baba.
My Baba
My baba wears a blanket This love you'll never shake it He's got his hands and eyes in oh so many many places You could try to run but you could never hide The whole world is his home The earth, the fire, the sky
He taught me feed and serve and to remember God Remember love is not outside, it's within your heart He comes and feels grace, transcendental time and space Love with the whole human race, come and get your taste
Hara hara hara Mahadeva (And so the story goes) Hara hara hara Mahadeva (Just as the river flows) Hara hara hara Mahadeva (And so the story goes) Hara hara hara Mahadeva (Just as the river flows)
My baba lets me know he loves me just the way I am Made in God's hands, don't have to change a strand Of my hair or my eye color Nobody's other All are sisters, brothers in this family Family tree grows so tall that it scrapes the sky Lost in its branches and I don't know why Fixed both of my wings and taught me how to fly A river of joyful tears flows from my eyes
Yes I decide this is the callin No more of scowlin' Reach and and grab the hand of the friend of the fallen Queen's on the island, but we'll jump the ocean Gonna build a bridge of love and set it in motion Throw out your reason, this love's in season Sings in the earth and the air that we're breathin' This is the chapter, a symphony of laughter That never dies, let it shine, love divine
Hara hara hara Mahadeva (And so the story goes) Hara hara hara Mahadeva (Just as the river flows) Hara hara hara Mahadeva (And so the story goes) Hara hara hara Mahadeva (Just as the river flows)
Hara hara hara Mahadeva (And so the story goes) Hara hara hara Mahadeva (Just as the river flows) Hara hara hara Mahadeva (And so the story goes) Hara hara hara Mahadeva (Just as the river flows)
Hara hara hara Mahadeva Hara hara hara Mahadeva Hara hara hara Mahadeva Hara hara hara Mahadeva
My Baba - Song on YouTube
Hara hara hara Mahadeva is a Sanskrit mantra inviting the Great (Maha) God or Shining (Deva) in each and all of us to take us awake (no typo ) from the illusions of peace-preventing limitation.

A nice summary of where all this AYP stuff can take us.
Living in the Moment by Jason Mraz
If this life is one act Why do we lay all these traps? We put them right in our path When we just wanna be free
I will not waste my days Making up all kinds of ways To worry about all the things That will not happen to me
So I just let go of what I know I don't know And I know I'll only do this by Living in the moment Living our life Easy and breezy With peace in my mind With peace in my heart Peace in my soul Wherever I'm going, I'm already home Living in the moment
I'm letting myself off the hook for things I've done I let my past go past And now I'm having more fun I'm letting go of the thoughts That do not make me strong And I believe this way can be the same for everyone
And if I fall asleep I know you'll be the one who'll always remind me To live in the moment To live my life Easy and breezy With peace in my mind With peace in my heart Got peace in my soul Wherever I'm going, I'm already home
I can't walk through life facing backwards I have tried I tried more than once to just make sure And I was denied the future I'd been searching for But I spun around and hurt no more By living in the moment Living my life Easy and breezy With peace in my mind With peace in my heart Got peace in my soul Wherever I'm going, I'm already home
I'm living in the moment I'm living my life Just taking it easy With peace in my mind Got peace in my heart Got peace in my soul Oh, wherever I'm going, I'm already home
I'm living in the moment I'm living my life Oh, easy and breezy With peace in my mind Peace in my heart Peace in my soul Wherever I'm going, I'm already home I'm living in the moment

I fell asleep in front of the TV and woke up to this guy singing like a goat. Amazing stuff...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGF2e5JFdRI
Family - In My Own Time
Lay down easy, stars in my eyes Try not telling too many lies Wake up feeling, not foolish or wise And life goes with me, no matter what size
Now some seek Jesus, of flags they can wave Won't touch nothing, unless it's been saved But I say your neighbor deserves much more faith And answer to yourself when you misbehave
You may think I'm wasting my time Think what you think, you know I don't mind But if you don't pick up what I choose to find
I'll be with you in my own time I'll be with you in my own time
Mine is my freedom you take, I'll defy Laugh till I'm tired, sing till I cry Cause life is a moment you pass with a sigh Never comes back sure as yesterday's by
I'll be with you in my own time I'll be with you in my own time
---------------------------------------------------------------------- Really relevant song there - especially since my friends think I'm wasting my time doing yoga! Plus he's singing about his own timeline. |
